View Full Version : Pretty Bummed Out by Cadillac heavy discounting

I've had my new DTS for about two months and like it very much.

Still I'm pretty disappointed that buyers can now get the same car for about
$8,000 less than I did because of the new GM "Buy at Employee Discount" plus their $5,000 cash back incentives.

I know, "that's the way the cookie crumbles" and all that stuff.

Still......

It does sting when we feel like we might have left money on the table, or missed the best deal. I know I have been there before.

When I sold new Buicks in 2002 -2003, the GM employee discount was typically about another grand under invoice for a 30-40K MSRP vehicle as I recall (feebly), less any applicable rebates, and in the case of Cadillac, there is often "dealer cash". I don't know how current employee pricing works for Caddy but my guess is that it might be a grand or two better than the best deal any of us could work, but I wouldn't think any more than that unless the cash back and other incentives changed dramatically since you bought.

One thing that I had never considered until I spent two years in the trenches of new/ used GM car sales is that when the price of new cars come down like this, it has a direct impact on what dealers will give on trade for a comparable used vehicle, as well as the price of used vehicles for sale. The used car values/prices go down not only because the comparable new vehicles are worth less, but many times the dealers end up moving a disproportionate number of new vehicles out of their inventory as a result of the new car discounts
and are left with a glut of trade-in vehicles.

Seems like the story of my life, whether I'm buying a vehicle or anything else I always find a lower price later. :( Too bad auto sales aren't like department stores where they honor the lowest price for 30 days!! Anyhow, enjoy your new car.

But:
1. I've had the pleasure of driving my DTS for the past 5 months.
2. Believe you have to buy from dealer's stock, which would have meant buying a LuxII or LuxIII. Love my DTS Performance and am sure I would have been less satisfied with the DTS in the other models. Also love the dark cherry w/Shale interior. My dealer had only one Performance model, in double black, with Nav and sunroof which I didn't want. If I really was just interested in buying a Cadillac at a bargain price, I would have bought a '07 program car.

Nope, I'm happy I bought when and how I did.....

Well said. In all the years I've been buying Cadillacs, my dealer has always stocked the basic rental grade cars, in the rental colors of black, white, or silver, with a red or blue showing up on rare occasions. I, on the other hand, always want the top model with all the available toys which has left me no choice but to custom order all my vehicles. I've never been disappointed, and am told everywhere I go "I've never seen a Cadillac that looks as good as yours".

Since I lease, these types of promos have had little impact on my payment, because they are aimed at the "value leaders" within each model line. While I look for the best value in everything, I've never been one for travelling coach.

rjm,

Agree with you 100%. :worship:
I also like the ones with all the toys. :cool2:

If I can afford a new Cadillac... I can afford to get it with EVERYTHING.

If I can't afford it the way I WANT IT... then I should be looking at Chevys or Buicks. :) :)

I usually keep one till at least the 100,000 mile warranty runs out so I am not going to get anything for trade in anyway. I just buy what I want... enjoy the heck out of it...(and I do enjoy my Cadillacs) and try not to worry about what someone else did or didn't do. :stirpot:
