View Full Version : Why dts İs not belong to f class? Newmonarch 08-24-08, 05:15 PM I concern about this all the time. Why DTS is not belong to class that which has got MB S Class, Bmw 7 series and Audi A8.
Yes it is FWD, and also it has got not much power, the most powerfull version of engine can produce 292 Hp and 400 Nm of torque, I accept it. But in the other hand, the same horsepowered Bmw 7 series are in the same price tag (7.35 ) nearly. I think Cadillac has got everything except minor featers that which Bmw, Mb and Audi has.
Cadillac has got Magnetic Ride, heated steering wheel, heated&cooled seats, massaging seats, adaptive cruise control, side blind alert, Remote Start, heated washer fluid, Navigation with voice recognition, led lighting, break assist, a perfect bose sound system, Lane Departure Warning, Onstar etc.
Anything that Cadillac has not got but 7 series-Audi A8 and Mercedes S class has exists? ( Except MB's some features, like Pre-Safe, I accept it but Bmw 7 and Audi A8 has not got this and they are in F segment? ) Lord Cadillac 08-24-08, 06:29 PM Build quality is lower.. Power is lower.. It's front wheel drive (which really doesn't bother me).. And it's missing a few features that the others have.. It's really not far off from the cars you mentioned - it's just not quite there either.. Newmonarch 08-24-08, 09:25 PM Power is not lower if we compare with S350, 7.35 Li . I mean Mb and Bmw has got lower versions too, even Bmw and Audi cannot compete with S class in power race Mercedes can offer 612 Hp engine with S body other can only offer 450 not more but they are still in F class and you said build quality, what did you mean? Interior quality or something...What? Yes, it has got few cons, for example 4 speed automatic transmission and front wheel drive , but I dont think it is a valid reason to push the cadillac out of F segment. What will we call this car, E segment? It's competetiors are E class, 5 series or something? I dont think so. ryannel2003 08-24-08, 11:01 PM The main reason why the DTS isn't put in that spectrum of car is because of its lack of technology and old platform. Still being based on the K-Body (which dates back to 1998 in current form) and having old technology really doesn't help its case. The Northstar, while still a great motor, lacks the power to compete with the S-Class and 7-Series (comparing V8 to V8).
Yeah the DTS has Magnetic Ride Control (available only on Performance Sedan), but it uses an old Navigation system dating back to 2004, a 4 speed automatic transmission, a tired old FWD platform, and has the image of a geezer mover. On top of all this, the most expensive DTS is around $60k while the other two cars start at $70k and higher.
If and when Cadillac introduces a true S/7/A8 competitor to the market, we'll have a reason to celebrate. Until then, we're left with the DTS.
BTW, the STS is a competitor to the E/5/A6. The only true competitor the DTS has ever had is the Lincoln Town Car, and that dies this year. CadillacSTS2003 08-25-08, 12:00 AM wrong
the nav system in the DTS is not the same nav in the Deville
in 06 when the Deville was revamped into the DTS it came equipped with a new nav system Newmonarch 08-25-08, 06:57 AM But Cadillac is native marque in USA, its normal to Bmw's Or Mb's being expensive in USA. ( Except X5, ML and R class ) ryannel2003 08-25-08, 05:41 PM wrong

I guess I was wrong on my years; the unit is from 2006, but its based on old technology and couldn't compare to what is offered in the 7 and S-Class. Hell, even the CTS has a much better unit.
The Deville uses the same unit as the old Seville's did. I guess I was wrong on my years; the unit is from 2006, but its based on old technology and couldn't compare to what is offered in the 7 and S-Class. Hell, even the CTS has a much better unit.

The units in the 7, S, and CTS should be better since they are all hard-drive based versus the DVD system in the DTS. Yes the graphic displays in the S and 7 are much nicer, but they should be since the hard drive has the ability to store more information than what is contained on the DVD in the DTS. But, I'll take the simpler graphics of my DTS since it has a touch screen, whereas in the S and 7 you are forced to use their i-drive knobs. Having experienced them all, I'd rate the system in the CTS above either the S or the 7 because it also has a touch screen interface which allows for much quicker inputs, and you have a much better chance of the voice recognition software actually understanding your commands! Newmonarch 08-30-08, 07:12 PM Okay, and than another question. Were 1998 Deville and Towncar could compete with same model S class and 7 class? E38 and W140. | |
