Was there a year that this dash configuration came out with a CD player on the factory stereo? I would like to replace my cassette player with a CD but I don't want to loose the original look. TIA

If you have one your looking to get rid of let me know.

No... CD players were not offered in the Brougham until the 1990 update. However, the '87 does have the large din-and-a-half opening. The FWD Cadillacs had this same opening in the late eighties and early 90's and CD players were an option in those. You could get one of those radios and make it work with the appropriate harness adapters. And if you're going for an original look, you could choose from several GM din-and-a-half radios that had the same harness. For example, the Buick Grand National CD player may work, but those are pricey since they're rare. Just don't get any beefed up radios like Bose, Monsoon, etc because the Broughams always had the basic speaker systems.

I've done this type of thing before; I put a '96 Buick radio in my '90 Brougham because it looked better, sounded better, and had better controls. I just took the the radio's plug and spliced it with a female version of the standard GM radio plug (standard between '87 to the mid-90s). Then I plugged it right into the Brougham's factory plugs.. no cutting!

My suggestion: get a FWD Deville CD player from 1989-1993 and make it work.

Ya know, know that I think about it. I think the FWD CD player models may have been Bose models. Whatever you get, just look at the face for any extra company things. And if you can see the car you're pulling it from, check the speakers to see if they're Bose speakers. Any factory radio that was on Bose speakers will not work easily in a Brougham.

Here's one that will plug right in, as it already has the same GM plug. It's from a 90s Camaro.

That front pic is upside-down, by the way. This will fit right in the dash whole, but the brackets will probably need some modifying. I simply let the dash hold mine in. But you want to make sure the whole is deep enough for the radio. Pull yours out and check the depth; then make sure the new radio will go. Again, for me I had to get a hack saw and cut some nubs off the back for mine to fit. But you probably wont have to get that drastic.

Here's another.

But that's the Grand National radio.

Good luck!

So the FWB was GM size before 1990?

The use of "DIN and a half" can be confusing, as it's not really DIN and a half. I call it GM/Chrysler size. While it is definitely taller than DIN and shorter than double DIN, it is WIDER than either, meaning you cannot put a GM/Chrysler size head unit into a car that originally had a single or double DIN. Seems like the 90 was the first year of double DIN according to you, so 90-96.

Yep, 1990 was the first year of those big face radios (two din or whatever). In any case, GM radios seem to fit GM cars, and those halfway-between-dins seem to be pretty interchangeable. :D And the Brougham went to that, whatever it is, in 1987, a change from the single din knobs-on-either-side radio when the dash was slightly revised.

Oh thank heavens for General Motors! :cloud9:
