View Full Version : My Big Mac was half empty.

I notified McDonald's about my dissatisfaction.

Every human being on this planet knows what a Big Mac looks like. It's so internationally known that it's used as a measure of purchasing power parity by economists -- the "Big Mac Index".

Well, whomever assembled my Big Mac decided to put all the meat, vegetables, and sauce on the bottom level and put absolutely nothing on the top level. How does someone make such a mistake?

You can view a picture of the burger I ate here:

Please correct this error in the future. Thanks for your time.

I know how you feel. I went to Burger King like a week or two ago and wanted to try their new cheesy bacon tender crisp sandwich and I told them not to put pickels or tomato on it. I get home and open it up and it was the chicken patty in a bun and that was it. I was like wtf is this crap!?

My wife called McDonalds 800 number and heaped praise on them about some sandwich in the past. They sent her a thank-you letter and a bunch of coupons for free stuff.

BTW, Jesda, they're only looking out for your health. They probably also hide the bacon when you drive up.

The McDonald's by my work is awesome. Its owned by the company instead of being a franchise so the quality of the food is always top notch. It is also one of the first stores to receive the newest products and the prices are always a little less than others. I have only been to a handful of McDonald's that have 99 cent double cheeseburgers.

I'm pretty sure the double cheeseburger has been on the dollar menu for a while now...

Anyway... I was trying to think back to the cheapest stuff I remember at McDicks. I remember that the plain old hamburgers/cheeseburgers were around 40 cents and that quarter-pounders were like 55 cents a piece.

In the UK we refer to McDonalds as ChavDonalds

I don't know what the US version of Chavs would be, whitetrash maybe?!?!

My take:

McDonalds. The lowest quality, entry level food on the planet. Simply awful burgers, decent fries and barely "good" everything else

Burger King: Giant Step up from the above. However, watered down freezing cold soda, that every person adds 8 ice cubes to, at the "U-Vend" machine.

Wendies: THE BEST. A biiger choice. they have Chilli, Burgers, baked potatoes, fresh made really great tossed salads, and more. Great choice, very good food.

White Castle: Sandy's favorite if no Wendies is around. What more can be said for the oldest and best "bad for ya food"?

Personally, my #1 fav is a good kosher deli and a ruben sandwich with F. Fries and a R/C Old Fashioned Cola or a Boylen's Pure Cane Sugar Soda
Now................... that is living !!

That did it, Jesda!..... Karen and I will soon (half hour, EDT) head to our local Annie's Paramount Steakhouse for an appetizer of bacon-wrapped barbecued scallops followed by a slab of rare prime rib, all-day-cooked green beans and a football-sized baked potato with butter (butter) and sour cream. Pedroncelli Cabernet. Key lime pie. Espresso. Drambuie.

Damn, you know how to spend my money..........

So when I go to the USA I *always* visit my favourite: FatBurger

I also like In'n'Out Burger.

I tried Wendy's and Jack in the Box but those were the only burger places I think...

On a side note: I'm amazed how cheap you can eat at Taco Hell...

I don't eat chicken, so I don't even notice KFC
Papa Johns, I think ...is Pizza. the ONLY Pizza place to go in N.Jersey is STAR TAVERN & PIZZA, voted #1 on line as THE best Italian Eatery in Jersey & THE best pizza. You can't even get in on a Friday Sat or Sun Eve. A line like you cannot imagine. So, therefore we don't do Dominos, either.

Jesda, the Jewish Deli to plotz for here is "Larry's" in Linden, NJ and South Plainfield, NJ Oh dear God, is it packed. I have been in the 45 minute line.
They catered our wedding. It's only 25 years later & people are still talking about it. Every single thing is homemade.

Next to cars, my #1 thing is FOOD !!!!!!! I love to eat. But I like good stuff and good stuff is pricey.

Ever come to Jersey, I'll treat ya & drive ya there, too. You'd be :welcome:

After missing out on In 'N Out in 2000 on a cross country trip, we made it to one in Las Vegas in '04. It was good. But I liked the Hardee's burger I had the day before better...

I like Sonic.

Sometimes I do feen for White Castle. But the closest ones are in NY. I had WC in Indy in '05. We had left the C&D 50th Anniversary party early on Sunday because it was 105 degrees. We got it on the way back to the hotel. And it created incredibly dense fart bubbles that would stink up the pool at the hotel...

Comments on: NJ Dining: Star Tavern

Food, Technology and the Mind of eGullet Founder Jason Perlow

By: David nelson
The Star tavern's plain cheese pizza is probably the best I can remember having in recent years. Their pizza is better than the 2 top choices out here in southern PA 80 miles west of Philly. I like the Star's thin crust which minimizes the bread and maximizes the cheesiness. Is it worth a side trip from the turnpike or other NJ highways you might be traveling? You bet'cha. We were at Liberty State Park in Jersey City recently and made the short trek over to Orange for a wonderful lunch of Pizza and antipasto. Almost ironically it seems the more orange color that is in the pizza, the better it tastes.

By: Joe Sablon
I was born, but not raised in New Jersey, and whenever I have an excuse to visit family the underlying motivation is to eat at Star Tavern for the plain cheese pizza, and Jimmy Buff for the italian hot dogs. Star is stellar!

By: Steve Nielsen
If this is the same Star Tavern Pizza taste from back in the 60's. It's the best on earth.....I miss it here in Florida. I'm thinking about visiting New Jersey again just for Star Tavern pizza and Dicky Dee's Italian hot dogs...the good stuff!!! ...and of course a big mug of R/C Cola !.

By: Tonyfig
I can tell you from my own experiences that Star Tavern is its own institution. I lived blocks from the Star in the 50's and 60's and since then the pies have not changed much at all. The pizzas are cooked in a standard Blodgett deck ovens but the process starts out in a thin well-oiled pie pan and halfway through the pan is pulled from the oven to finish the pie directly on the deck. This gives the crust a great flavor that is also crisp and cooked perfect in my opinion.

On the days we didn't head into the Star itself I have memories of my mother sending me down to Star for balls of dough on Fridays when most all Catholics didnt eat meat, for the Italians in the area it was pizza (cheese mostly with a few anchovie "white"pies) and pasta ala oglio.

Star is a must visit for me everytime I head back home. GREAT thin-crust tomato pie.!

Don't feel badly, W.C. burgers make everyone fart.
Next time, notice, MOST people pull out of the lot with the windows down ~

dkoz, Half a continent and several degrees of latitude away, you're on target. Here in Maryland our local (Jerry Reed choke & puke) Taco Bell requires a fairly good knowledge of some Central American language, much similar to MickeyD's. One honestly does not have even an acceptable experience in most "fast food" emporiums nowadays........

When in Rome I spoke pidgin Italian. If the shoe fits, wear it........

It is also one of the first stores to receive the newest products and the prices are always a little less than others. I have only been to a handful of McDonald's that have 99 cent double cheeseburgers.

The MickeyD's here has 99cent double cheeseburger... and I live in a small interstate town. They are not too bad, if I am going to work and didn't get anything to eat (as it has been this whole week) I'll stop and get 2 of them....$2.14 and it actually fills me up.

I tried the Southern chicken sandwhich.... it's just a piece of average chicken with mayo and pickles, I really didn't think it was any good, I've rather have a 99cent Wendys chicken sandwhich.... and I have no idea where they come up with Southern in the name.... because it has some pickles? I dunno.... that or I've been living in Georiga for too long and now know what real Southern food taste like.

In my small town that has more hotels then stop lights, for fast food we've got Burger King (I think they are pretty good, like the fries, not nearly as popular here as in NY) Mickey D's (tied with bottom of the line IMO) Krystal (tied with Mickey D's for worst fast-food) Krystal is also the cheap spin off Southern version of White Castle... which it fails miserably at. There is also a Wendys that I like for the 99cent baked potato and side/ceaser salad, and finally a Zaxby's, which is, IMO one of the best fast food chains... very good food, tho a bit more money.

In the next town over, where I used to live, about 15mins away besides all these is also Taco Bell (new ones are pretty nice) Hardees (actually pretty darn good, a personal favorite) Sonic (oddball of the group, but cool) Checkers (not bad, great but nasty for your body fries)

I think thats most of them.... then there is Bar-B-Cutie which replaced Backyard Burgers.... Backyard Burgers was, IMO very, very good, but there were only 2 left in GA and they closed that one, Bar-B-Cutie I never heard of (as either Backyard) but I went there and it was nothing special at all... tho it holds up to the name.

But... one of the THE BEST local fast food places, which they said they are building a place here in my small town too is also some of the best Southern food I've had.... cole slaw, wings, ribs, pulled pork etc.... Georgia Bob's.... really good food. Heh, the guy is from the same county I live in, but in the 20's.

http://www.georgiabobs.com/

Man, I will always be a New Yorker, but I am really getting used to this place.... in NY the food was Italian and pizza, and the runner up was the Chinese food..... here, it's definitly Southern, both the style and home-cooking food, as well as BBQ, which I never knew was an actual type of food until I moved here.... and like NY, the runner up here is Mexican food.... some really good authenic Mexican places here... As for Clearwater... eh, it was kind of a mix, but there was some really good Cuban places there, there is one here but it's not as good, Thai here isn't too bad either.

Man that is alot of typing... anybody actually care about the fast food places in this town? Doubt it...lol

I've heard of Tastee Freeze from a few country music songs. I saw one on the main rte leaving Eastbound from VIR last year. Saw another one the next day somewhere in VA or WV. I decided to keep going because I wanted to eat at Chick-Fil-A.

But later, I wanted to try Tastee Freeze. Of all places, their website says they have one in Bennington, VT. So my brother and I made a trip to go there one evening. 2 hours each way. The address was wrong. A couple months later, I was in NW MA and decided to take a side trip to find it. Still couldn't.

A couple months ago, my brother and his wife found the place. It was a little whole on the side of the road and they were underwhelmed.

I still want to try it, though...

I hope Quizznos is better in the US than it is over here... Subway arrived here about 5 years ago and is expanding real fast. I much prefer their stuff to Quizznos (which are only found in the mall). Quizznos costs more and you get less.

I heard of Tasty Freeeze in a country music video, Hillbilly Deluxe I think it was...

Man, I'd love to go south or out east for some of their fast food.... so many different things that I've only heard about in songs or on TV...

Let's see, what do we have in MN as far as big name fast food places go...

McDonalds
Burger King
Arbys
Taco Bell
Quiznos
Dairy Queen
KFC
Wendys
Hardees (there are like four in the state)
Pizza Hut
Dominoes
Papa Johns
Papa Murphys
Carbones
Davannis
White Castle
Chipotle

We're not FINALLY starting to get Chick-Fil-A, and it's about damn time. There are two in the state, and both are on college campuses...I went to the one at the U of M Minneapolis campus and it was like heaven on a bun....great chicken, great salty. crispy waffle cut fries, low prices....mmmm mmm good. A very good friend of mine was in Warner-Robbins GA last summer, and he says our Chick-Fil-A doesn't compare with theirs, but I'll take what I can get!

Another one that's hard to find around here anymore is Schlotzkys. The nearest one from me is about 14 miles away, and boy is that drive worth it! They are, bar none, the best sandwiches you can buy for under $10. If it was closer, I'd go there several times a week. As far as I know, there are only like 5 in MN, two of which are on the west end of the twin cities, 14 and 30 miles from my place roughly. Is Little Caesar's big in other parts of the country? They were big here like 12 years ago, but they up and left in the mid '90s and are now starting to come back again... It's so great being able to get a hot, fresh, good quality pizza for $5, especially when there's no waiting involved..

We had a Moe's for about 10 months last year, it was the only one in the state, and I loved it... I would go there more than 1x a week, every week and get the same thing each time and love it. They closed up last September, and since then, there's been a void in my life, but now a new joint, a family owned joint has opened up in the exact same place that Moe's was in, and it's basically the same menu, same ingredients and same environment...it's like Moe's all over again! I guess Moe's is big in the south, so if I ever go down, you KNOW I'll be making some stops....
We have Chipotle though, and that is garbage when compared to Moe's. It's too commercialized, too "wham bam, thank you maam", too kitsch. They started to spring up in '04, when I was a junior in high school, and I used to go there all the time, because the food was pretty good (we had no "good" cheap mexican at the time, just Taco Hell), and that's where everyone my age went to hang out after we got out of school, but it's like in the last few years their quality has really dwindled, and their menu is so small...

As you can tell, like Sandy, food is probably my second favorite thing after cars. LOL!

Warner Robins eh? Thats where I used to live when I was renting the house, now I live about 15mins East, but the new job is in town (AFB)

There is a Schlotzkys in Atlanta, that place was really good, when my previous job put me up in ATL for 2 weeks, I ate there everyday.

Theres a few Moe's here, never heard of them until I was in Clearwater... I guess they would be ok, but they are nothing compared to all the real, authenic Mexican places, so it's not really anything special here.

Trying to get anything to eat after 10pm on a weekday or 12pm on the weekend is impossible here... only a few 24-hr Mickey D's are open, Krystal is 24-hr but that is bottom of the list.... then Huddle House and Waffle House, which are both lame excuses for food, then the Dennys here is also 24hr but it is barely any better then the other two "houses"... in NY they were OK, here... eh.... Ihop here isn't all that good either, atleast to me.

Thats what stunk about working midnight shift at the last job, to go out to eat ment you had to pick lesser of the 3 evils....

The problem with today's fast food is the employees. that is painfully obvious.

Here in CA, EVERY fast food employee is imported, more then likely Illegally, and can barely do their job, IF they even get it right, I know the assembly of a Burger you make 500 times a day, is a difficult task, but you would think repetition would ensure a quality burger build, it doesn't.

my friend and I were at the drive thru of McDonald's and he asked for his fillet o fish with only cheese, yeahhhh, you guessed it, it had cheese on a bun. he has ordered it this way forever and never had a problem. hmmmmmmmmmm.

I was at a jack n the box out here and after 3 failed attempts to communicate with the employee in english, I finally yelled out for a manager, he heard more then my order that day.

First time I ever had Chick-Fil-A was in the cafeteria at Harvard. One of our old clients was a former grad and gave a lot of money to the University and they had a huge memorial service for him there. Well over 2 hours. So we went there for lunch.

Now there are 3, I believe, in the area. All in malls. Next closest is in Maryland, I believe.

Amen to that brother... as is a Shoney's $5 breakfast buffet when you're pullin into South Carolina at 7 in the morning.

I'll have to disagree with Sandy about the best pizza in NJ though... while that place may have been voted the best, it was all voted by NNJ people. The best pizza hands down in the entire state is Mack's Pizza down the shore.

And speaking of the shore... if Jesda ever finds himself down the Jersey shore and wants a good corned beef sandwich, the Triangle Restaurant in Wildwood serves an awesome one.

Anyway... as far as all this fast food talk goes... they're all junk - just different flavors of it. *IF* I actually have to eat at one it would have to be either Chik-fil-a or Arbys as they're the only ones I can actually stomach every now and then.

Regardless... anyone who eats any of that crap more than twice a year needs to reevaluate some things.. Not only do you have to consider that there is much better food to be found out there.. but also the sheer amount of filth that you're putting in your body.

The words "fast" and "food". Don't belong in the same sentence.
Food on the road has always been a problem. Back in the day they used to say that you needed to stop where the truckers did. In reality, the truckers stopped either where there was a good place to park or the waitress had a nice ass.

**Some things from Arby's aren't that bad.... their French Dip & Swiss is actually edible... and they do have those potato cakes now which even I'll admit are pretty good (even if they are fried in "liquid heart-attack."

was...

Again, not a burger place but when I was in Rochester, NY, I went here: http://www.dinosaurbarbque.com/

and it was awesome!!!

Dinosaur BBQ is the best BBQ I have ever eaten, and I have eaten a lot! The Rochester site is their 2nd one, the original is in Syracuse. That one has more 'charm' than Roc.
Every time I ref over there in Syr or Roc, I make sure that the Dino is the dinner!

When it comes to most of Arby's menu, I'd rather put a .44 magnum in my mouth.

When it comes to fast food for me, I go to a local family owned place called Branko's right across the street from campus on Fullerton Ave. Everything is made fresh right after you order, and free fries with everything. They have best grilled chicken sandwich I've ever had.

As much as I like and respect you my friend.... with the varied (and substantial) amounts of crap you consume, I'd label your culinary taste/pallet "questionable" at best... :vomit:
