Hi all have a 77 caddy 425 eng tranny in morning when shift to drive takes about 3 seconds then it will engage to drive any idea's? thanks

The most common thing that would cause your symptoms would be a low fluid level. Check the level, top it up, and hopefully you'll get the trans to engage right away...

If full, then either the linkage has worn out bushings delaying movement of the shift linkage or the trans filter is plugged up restricting fluid flow. Unless you know for a fact that the trans fluid and filter have been replaced in the last 30,000 miles do that as well. DO NOT have the trans flushed!! just change the filter and necc. fluid. and report back.
