Hmmm.... How about a demolition derby of nothing but Priuses.... That'd be a hoot to watch.

I have been telling people for years that the mining of the types of metals that go into batteries is one of the most pollutive enterprises one can undertake.

Ive also read that if all the current cars in the world were hybrids there would not be enough of these types of metals to make all the batteries.

I have been saying this for as long as they have been out and now I have an actual article to shove in people's faces when they try and refute it. The batteries have always caused way more pollution than simply burning the fuel.

I'm gonna go on record and say that I kinda like the Prius... :hide:

However, i do not like the people who drive them. They are fart smelling douches who need to prove they are better than everybody.

The prius never made sense to me, seems like most owners would just be better off buying a Civic....Its main selling point seems to be the sense of self satisfaction you theoretically attain by owning one.

Consensus might be no, but I know that some EV1 drivers had a smugness factor about them.

I'm sure that when people spend $50K for their Volt, they'll feel the same way.

Americans are so easily fooled, and Toyota loves it. It appeals to the grimiest reaches of our populous. I'm so disgusted when I see all these Priuses drivers thinking that they have saved the entire planet by buying a single over-priced, 100,000 mile lifespan car...and the commercials. Have you seen the Toyota Tundra commercials? They're ridiculous. It's all meant to the American redneck stereotype, and these people fall for it! Yesterday at work, I saw a new Tundra with an excessive American flag on the rear window with an eagle and everything. It just felt so...eerie.

What people have to understand is that hybrids and ICE electrics like the Volt are luxuries, in the sense that they're expensive and not entirely economical from start to finish. I love technology and I'm usually an early adopter of everything, but I want something that will drop my gasoline expenses to $0.

The message I want to convey when driving a high-tech automobile is that I'm into new and interesting gadgets. The Prius makes you look like an ignorant environmentalist.
