So how stupid have you been . . .

I've had the speedo buried in my 1999 Z28 Camaro, rpms buried at the 6k redline. The speedo reads to 155mph, but I've read it runs out of gear at 160mph for an automatic like mine. Its a stupidly fast car with a wicked top end, it pulls like crazy from a dead stop to ~140mph.

Somewhere over 150mph in the STS.

140 in the Q45. I seriously miss the Q45. :) What an amazing car, what awful fuel injectors. :(

145 MPH at 6 am on a Sunday on the highway (127 South) in my 300ZX TT. I had a cop friend on one end (where I was headed) to ensure all was safe. No other cars on the road, knew it was 100% clear between exits. Car could have kept going, but I got scared... started thinking about deer, tire blow-outs, etc. Never need to do it again. Got it out of my system.

131MPH in my S320, which I later found out was the governed top speed. 2 AM on I-35, only for a few miles before I got off the freeway and went home.

130mph in the STS.

146 in my mother's old M3

110 in my old '66 Mustang which was ENTIRELY too damn fast to be going in that car. Not to mention I did that on the way to the tranmsission shop to drop it off to thave the C4 tranny in it rebuilt..haha. I'm suprised it didn't grenade the planetary set inside on the way.

I try not to drive fast for extended periods....not a lot of road around here that can be done safely on. Every once in a while it's nice to run it up on a deserted road, then shut it down and continue on my way.

146 in a slightly modified Impala... and 143 in a Grand Cherokee SRT-8 - which was surreal to say the least.

Other than that... the Seville went up to it's fuel cutoff point of 110... Same with the GS at 108.

And of course the GW... (a frightening) 90 or so.

Hit 130 fuel cutoff in my STS one early sunday morning, nobody else on that stretch of I-75. That was enough, I don't find jail appealing and don't care to tempt fate.

Was regularly hitting the limiter on my Corsica doing 113mph on straight country roads between Embarrass and Ely, MN. Then one day I was in my hometown and hit a downhill so hard, I blew through the limiter and the needle was pegged at 120mph.

My SHO hit 145mph and my V hit 163mph on the same stretch of highway...

I found out the '95 tops out at 114. It simply runs out of gear and hits the rev limiter.

I have hit 128 in my grandfather's 2002 Chevy 2500 with the Duramax. The best part was that he was in the passenger seat and he wanted to see how far I would take it. Mind you at that speed it still had about 400 rpm left to play with but I had to turn onto his street. I am still amazed by the performance of that truck. Even at that speed it drove strait and very solid.

I have pegged my dad's '94 E-150 (the one I dragged at the Midwest Meet). That was scary as hell. I was doin right around 100 but in a full size van with a cushy, worn in suspension it felt like I was about to die.

I have only gotten the '88 to the 85mph limit when the speedo starts to flash. Its an old car and I was too scared to push it any further.

All of these runs were done on the same stretch of road out in the middle of nowhere by my grandparent's farm. They were also done in broad daylight. I would never go that fast at night because I have seen the damage an animal can do when you hit it at 100+.

Wow, a 3/4 ton Duramax at 128mph....that must be surreal.

I got mine up to 105 on I4 coming back from Orlando one night. Now that I have done it, I won't do it again.

Well Im bored so...

120 in my riceburner on a slightly inclined empty road LOL. Oh and yes, it took forever to get there. Reliable transportation though I must admit.

The limited 125 was easy to do in the Catera- when we had it. A very solid car and definitely tuned for Autobahn speeds. My friends MkV GTI does 135+ without sweat.

I was 17-18ish, not smart.

I hear ya Brett. We were no where near as smart at that age as we thought we where. I buried the needle on my '69 RoadRunner racing a Chevelle from a 60 punch on I90 near O'Hare I believe. Speedo stopped at 120. I'm estimating we where about 130. That was a loooooong time ago.

142 on the Yamaha, it had more for me but I was running out of open road. I was on I-680 over by Walnut Creek I think. Pretty dumb but some guy in a Lexus really lit my burner.

Not sure in a car, never paid attention, and it has been a while since I had road to do it on.
I know it was over 100, but.... I honestly don't remember.
I am too afraid of deer, dogs, old people who don't look when they pull out and police... in that order

163, 3am on a deserted stretch of Parkway. Blind rises and the fear of deer end it quickly.

I was pulled over late night on the same road for 97 in a 70 in my LS (he paced me off a on ramp) and the cop said. "You need to slow it down, lotta deer out here to mess up this pretty car" and he let me roll.

Oh, I forgot one. I have had my grandfather's Honda Goldwing up to 120. That was as fast as it would go and it was extremely stable at that speed. It has a 1.5 liter v-6 that was designed for cruising at 70-80 mph, so it is not a speed demon.

They also own 2 Honda Elite 80 (80cc engines) scooters and those things top out at 57 mph going downhill with a tailwind and drafting behind my grandpa's pickup. :)

I was 32 when I hit 163. But I have one spot for my high-speed runs. And it's only at 2:30-3AM on Sunday morning, after all the drunks have made it off the road, and heading towards the city as everyone who may be there is heading home in the other direction. As I approach the highway, if I see another car, I abort.

Believe me, if I do go that fast, it's only endangering myself...

Ely MN, what were you doin' in my neck of the woods?I'm half Finnish. My grandparents were from the UP of Michigan and I have extended family scattered all over MI, MN, WI and other states like ND and ID. Embarrass, MN was the location of the family reunion in '91.

:yeah:

Where I go is a clear 2 mile straight and I can see the whole way on both sides of the freeway.
