I just bought a lap robe off of ebay, but it had the House of Windsor Coat of Arms, not the Presidential Seal. I'd rather not divulge what I paid, but I can tell you the energy crisis has definitely affected the lap robe market.

Usually, in an economic downturn such as this, the lap robe market is the last thing to be affected.

Well maybe one of our distinguished octogenarian members can chime in here and help the OP out. :histeric: Did this lap robe belong to FDR at some point?

I was watching VH1 Classic for a few hours on Sunday afternoon, I was reclined on my couch, and I went for the blanket to put over me, but I decided against it at the last moment because I'm not old enough to need or enjoy that.

Are there any semen stains on the robe?

I have nothing useful to add here. Seems like you all have a handle on this lap robe thing.

I do, however, have a non-working Westinghouse two slice toaster that I would like you all to appraise when you are done with the presedential lap robe. Julia Child is rumored to have toasted one piece of wheat and four pieces of rye in it circa 1972.

Maybe CF should have a garage sale. I'm just sayin.

Come to think of it, I have a Hunter desk fan that is currently working, but only on the 1st speed. It dates back to 1982 and it has been said that Al Pacino used this exact fan in his trailer while shooting for the movie Scarface. When you're done with the Westinghouse Toaster and Lap Robe, I'd also like an appraisal on this.

I gotta take this one~ A Lap Robe is, yes, a blanket to cover your legs, calfs, and ankles. It's not used today in most circles. It was popular in the fifties, and prior among the very well-to-do woman in the tip top financial income circles: Read HOLY MOLLY WEALTHY ~ okay? The very interesting thing is that in 1974, and 1974 ONLY, Cadillac offered ONLY on the Fleetwood Brougham, WITH cloth interior, a LAP ROBE made of the same material as the Fleetwood Brougham's upholstery. I have spent the past 34 years LOOKING at every 1974 Fleetwood Brougham at tevery darn car show, hoping to see one. NOT YET ! Bummer. It's even listed in their options listing. I really think that they sold none ! I wonder if ordered if in came IN the '74 F.B. or was shipped to the owner at a later date ? I'll never know.

Sandy, I'm sure you're already aware of this, but how cool are those pillows installed in the '70s Imperials by the C-Pillars?

The leather covered head pillows came on the 1969 through 1973 Imperials. Yes, they were neat looking but I never sat in the back to try them.
The 1969-1973 Imps were THE best. They also had mini flood lites to illuminated the door switch-gear. (The power window buttons on 3 doors & the power seat buttons AND power window buttons on the driver's side.) Imps & Caddies of the fifties and early 60s also had foot rests in the back. Recall that? The Caddies were stationery, with the Imps were adjustable for various lengths of leg :)
Those days are all long gone. Today it's all about gas mileage and price price price!! To most buyers the car's features are secondary trival info. Price & Mileage RULE !!

This thread has been bothering me. I know there was more to tell, but I had to do the research, which is now done!

The Lap robe was also accompanied with a Pillow. Both the Robe & pillow were covered in matched material to the seats. This option was NOT offered in combination with the Leather Interior Option, only with the standard cloth seating. The pillow was 1/2 size of your standard size bed pillow, also covered in the fabric. I tried - but could not find the order code number, not the list price of the option. It was definitely offered in 1973 - possibly a year prior or after, but was an extremely poor seller. I have never seen one car with it.

Lap robes were a common automobile accessory into the mid forties when back seat heat replaced it. Before then rear seat pasengers suffered in sub zero weather. GM cars all had the reputation for the best interior heat.
