I have a 97 Northstar 4.0 liter Aurora that needs an engine. What year engines are interchangeable with this one. If no one knows, what year are the Cadillac engines interchangale.

no cadillac engines
1995 will work if you swap the intake
1996-1999 should be a direct drop in...

'96 through '99 -- any northstar engine will work. VIN "Y" or "9" will work. ECM runs the 4.6 flawlessly.

I'm getting ready to do it myself.

A 1995 engine will require rewiring the knock sensor, as the '96-'99 engines have it under the intake. 1995 and prior years have the knock sensor on the side of the block, on the right cylinder bank. (by the rear exhaust manifold). Unless I miss my guess, re-routing the wire to the sensor on the '95 engine should do the trick. And yes the intake would have to be used from the Aurora, as well as most sensors. The oil press. sensor/switch is different on Auroras, because they have the P.S.I. readout and the idiot light. Caddys only have the idiot light. (?!!?)

Some brackets will have to be used from the Aurora engine.
