Is there an after market EUC for Cadillac STS 4.6L engine w/ all safety features disabled? We have an 2003 Cadillac STS 4.6L engine (nothing else) on a dyno and we use it as a teaching tool for undergradute mechanical engineers here at UCLA. It was donated by GM w/ many safety features in the ECU disable so the engine can operate normally. We recently determined that one of the cylinder is not getting fuel because the ECU is not working properly. We attempted to use a rebuilt ECU but the engine dies a second or so after it turns over.

Thanks!

With an OBD1 computer you could have a chip made.

This is a tricky one because there is (and was) no car attached. There is usually a vehicle VIN derivative stamped in a pad on the engine block just below the right cylinder head, drive belt end (engine front). There may also be a way to backtrack the barcode and number on the PCM itself.

You need to go to GM for this one.....with no vehicle ever mated with the engine even a dealer can't look it up...............and, no, there are no plug-in ECU's on the aftermarket, although you might set up an experiment in running the engine on Holley, Edelbrock, or another stand-alone Engine Management System.

stngh8tr, A 2003 STS engine/PCM unit will be OBD-II, as will all the sensor data streams and DTC's. No one can "Make a chip" because chips don't exist for an OBD-II PCM and there's no way to know what GM used as the base program for a teaching engine used as a dyno mule.

This is a super simple fix.
PKIII bypass

theres a bypass for pk3?
i know for remote start installs at bb we have a module which we program with the keys polarity but that requires tapping into the actual ignition...

There's got to be a lot more disabled in the PCM than just Passkey. Like the communication to the trans, I/C, Climate control,..ect.

CHRFab was using the Holley Commander 950 for a while. There are stand alone ECU's out there that will work. Just need to install a reluctor wheel on the crank pulley, and flash the unit with the right fuel/ignition maps.

Anyone on here who's install one of these in a Fiero or other vehicle would have likely had to go this route as well.

You could contact the people over at www.chrfab.com and see what their input is. They install these engines in sandrails and deal with this issue of stand alone management. They might have a reasonable solution for you.

I have had to repair several of the holley setups and they run like crap.
