I am mad as hell at Mother Mopar for dishing out and trotting out a concept Imperial a couple
of years ago (2006) and parading ir around and never having ANY thoughts of really making it.
It was to get concessions from labor. That's all.
I am pretty sure the nameplate is dead, for good. I will never forgive myself for selling my 1975
LeBaron Crown Coupe` ! My 1975 IMPERIAL LeBaron Crown Coupe

That was the 1970 Imp. A nice car, (actually a 1969 with a new grille,)
and for 1 year LOST it's fender skirts.
Imp lovers (I know many, as you can imagine) hate the 1970, as it looks ODD without the skirts on it.
I was at an Imp. meet and I cracked up when I heard an owner tell another owner that he had an Imp that lost it's skirts....and the other owner said: "Oh, you have a 1970?" It just looks so so so wrong, almost naked.
I do like the Red over white, but....we Imperialists know that it's an aftermarket top. Imps never had red vinyl tops. BURGUNDY appeared in 1971 !
I've belonged to many clubs (Edsel, Mercury, Dodge, Imperial, GTO, Buick Gran Sport, 4.4.2.
Imperial people are a tuff group. Judging at events can take a loooong time. Imp people dot every "i" 3 times ! (and) Their knowledge is astonishing. An Imp can ONLY be one way, and that's factory bone stock, and man are they strict. I sawcars being judged for 45 minutes ! Pete Benson 08-09-08, 07:16 PM Sandy, on eBay I just picked up brochures for the '69 Imperial (first year for the fuselage body), and the '72 (major refresh). The coupes were particularly great looking - I especially like the "stiffer", more formal rear roof pillar on the '72 coupes. There are 3 - 1969 brochures. A LARGE one, an identical one, but 1/2 the size and a "cheapie" Hand-Out" one. If 'ya ever wanna know sumpin' ask me as I have every brochure on them printed (1957-to the end) and all of the showroom color & trim selection binders, vinyl roof samples, and product knowledge books.
Also have all production # s from 1957 to the end....
Sadly >>> NO CAR !:crying2: But, I have had many. Never shoulda sold the '75,
BUT - - I HAD to have the 1982. What a wrong decession THAT was !! Pete Benson 08-09-08, 08:53 PM There are 3 - 1969 brochures. Your collection sounds amazing, incredible - I'd kill twice to see it. By the way, the eBay descriptions for both of the brochures refer to them as the "extra large, prestige" ones, so I'm hoping that's what they are. yES, THEY WILL BE THE "GOOD" ONES. They cannot use those words and send anything else.
Don't forget that my Dad was a 1/3 "Silient" partner in a ICP store, and I worked there! So, nothing any good went into the dumpster. Cry-Slur (what I called them when I was mad at them) was famous for running changes, during any year. Special groups, packages, colors, roof styles would come 'n go every November, March and July. It was a ploy to get dealers to order more cars for inventory. In truth the buyer was never that astute to walk onto a ICP lot and proclaim: "OH MY, I MUST HAVE THAT NEW ST. REGIS ROOF OPTION AND I MUST HAVE THAT IN THE NEW MID-YEAR CINNAMON METALLIC !
('Ya, right!) So, to keep Mother Mopar happy we played along and ordered their Gold Dusters, and other short runs.
I grabbed EVERYTHING related to Imps. The dealership was in an extremely affluent area and we had no problem selling Imps, most paid for with COD.
We stocked 3 and the 3 owners each had one and 2 of the 3 wives had one and 3 in stock, and mine, (that I bought). We did about 43 a year, and we were a small dealer. OTHER SMALL DEALERS DID LIKE 8-13 A YEAR. Pete Benson 08-09-08, 11:27 PM So, to keep Mother Mopar happy we played along and ordered their Gold Dusters, and other short runs.
GOLD DUSTERS?? Oh my god, Sandy - I had one! My parents bought it for me, brand new, after I graduated from school back in 1972. It was black, with the 318 ci V8 engine, gold snakeskin canopy vinyl roof, and gold racing stripes across the back end. I was crazy about that car, and kept it for ten or twelve years before selling it to a friend of mine who promptly gave it to his girl friend, or boy friend, or whatever the hell it was he was going with at the time, who promptly totaled it. I was so angry I never spoke to the s.o.b. again.
I've still got the brochure for the car, and pictures I took of it parked in front of some huge mansions in the area. I'd case the place first, drive in, park (motor running), jump out and take the pictures, and then jump back in and get the hell out before anyone in the house realized I'd been trespassing on their property. I~LUV~Caddys8792 08-10-08, 12:26 AM I have the brochure for the 1970 Imperial, it's like 12-15 pages thick and it's probably well over 12 x12 inches. It's huge, and it has a green cover and it says "1970 IMPERIAL" on the cover. yup, that's the brochure! Very thin pages (paper) If I recall. It's worth $25.00. | |
