: Window Tint

I was reading through the owners manual for my 06 STS4 and it said that you should not apply aftermarket window tint because it could interfere with the GPS and Nav. I know a lot of people tint there windows, but has anyone ever heard of window tint having an impact on anything?

Thanks

No problems here.

I just had my 05 tinted. They key is to use a non-metallic tint. Although the non-metallics are more prone to "purple up" over the years, it's a safer bet to not cause radio/nav issues.

From what I am lead to believe the NAVI/GPS antenna is in the front windshield/dash area so it is my belief that as long as you don't tint the front windshield you will be OK.

It's illegal to tint the windshield below the top 5 inches anyway.

My '06 STS is tinted with metallic and I have no issues with NAV, radio, etc.

Best to use non-metallic, but as some have mentioned as long as you don't tint front windshield you should be ok. Rear window only has FM antenna built in and rear defrost (you can see two different paths of wire built into the window if you look close) neither of which should be affected by metallic tint.

Here's what I did just to be sure I wouldn't have an issue: have cadillac dealer install tint, most charge going rate in town for tint, and this way if there is an issue, the dealer can fix it without cost to you.

Most dealers will 'farm out' window tint to independents anyway.

The only thing I heard about interference with window tint is the effect it could have on the 'auto headlight' sensor on the dash if the tint is to dark.

35 all way around... I don't like the way it looks with mixed tint after putting some samples up to the window

With regards to dealers "farming out" tint to independents, this is true, they all do it, but the independents come to the dealer to do the work and the dealer stands by their work. If your nav should stop working after tint installed somewhere other than the dealer, you're screwed... tint has to come off and good luck getting someone to not charge you $$ for it.
