Your Oil Temp?? The only time I see my Oil Temp Below 200 is within the first 30 mins of start up. My Coolant Temp is usually between 190 and 220.

 That's funny I should have said that my drive to work is only 10 minutes and I rarely am on trips for more than 30 min. I also don't pay that close attention so maybe I just never looked on those longer rides.

I've had mine reach 285 running through the canyons when it was 105 deg out side and I let off when I realized the oil was so hot... I looked down and went HOLLY S__T since even having oil at 285 is way Hot right?

I've ran open track in Vegas Speedway when it was 108 outside and with a 16LB radiator cap I was still boiling my water over and even then the oil temp was still only about 275 that was with a mechanical gauge in the pan on my old stang.

It's good to know that the V's gauges are out of wack cause when I saw 285 oil temp I though the motor had it...

Is there a TSB for this???

The first time my gage went crazy was last night when I started the car after it was sitting for maybe 10 minutes. Then today driving home from work it went crazy again, all other temp gages showed a normal op temp..Maybe it is a faulty gage...

Mine started up recently as well, prob a few days ago... Happens whenever I've been out driving for a while, and I come to a stop, its Jumps from 230's to like 250-260, then if i sit for a little while, It starts yelling at me (27-). Hopefully the dealer fixes it, I should be picking it up in about 30 mins.

*Update* just heard back from the Dealer, and I need to bring it back for them to REWIRE the Ground from the Sensor... He mentioned something about the Kick Panel

225-235 on the street. Goes to 329 on the track which is as high as the gauge reads.

Ok, I just went on a hour-long round trip and it's 85 degrees outside. My oil took 15 minutes to get to 190 degrees and it maxed out at 206 on the way home. Whatever that means.

I think they goofed on the supply lines for i was around 140-180 runnin temp before i installed the new oil pump...

Our shop builds GM big-block and Olds 455 engines for racing and cruising in several different types of Chesapeake bay workboats. We like to keep hot running oil temps in the 200-220 degree range, with 230 just about long-term max.

Why? One reason manufacturers strive to achieve oil temps in the 190-215 degree range is to heat the accumulated condensation and combustion byproduct acids to vaporize them so the PCV system can sent them to the intake manifold to be burned (again.....) and converted to water and CO2 by the catalytic convertor. If the oil temp never goes past 190+, water and acids never leave the oil and cause significant damage to bearing meals and piston skirts. Extended temps over 235 tend to break down the oil viscosity index which is set by added polymeric compounds....chemical oil alterations that are broken down by excessive heat.

215 degrees is plenty damn hot.......but it's about where oil is designed to run.

140-150 is too cold, and can actually do great harm to an engine over time, which is why short-hop winter driving is so hard on an engine and oil.

Mine runs about 205 all the time. Maybe it gets to 210 -215 on really hot days in traffic, but every time I think to check it, it says 205.

Once again... this site kicks ass...
Started getting the (!) for Oil Temp around 320 and got a little worried... not driving aggressive or anything, and it's in the 80's or 90's outside...
Spend literally 1 minute on the BEST SITE ON THIS CAR EVER and find the answer
Car will be going in to the dealer to correct...

I will continue to support until I no longer have a V... (which should be a LONG time)

THANX!!!

My oil temp shows approximately ambient temp immediately upon cold start up (as expected) then goes up as car is driven. I drove to the grocery store and back (about 5-6 miles) and the highest oil temp I saw was 185.

When on a trip of greater than 20 or so miles, about 215-220* here in the sunny South. This is with a ported standard LS6 (pn 12586665) pump equipped with a Melling high pressure relief spring and no oil cooler.

The first time I ever noticed how hot my oil temp was getting was the other day. it was about 100 degrees and i turned the A/C on, at the exact moment the "dings" started and the oil temp was flashing. i checked the temp and i believe it was about 290 or so. no A/C i was running 240, as soon as the A/C buton is hit it climbs so im thinking its something mechanical. I recently got a tune and all of a sudden my car is all tore up.....

I took mine to the dealer they rewired the ground sensor, but on a recent trip oil temp still hit 300, now they claim they did all they can and there is nothing else that can be done and I just need to live with it...

I got the same EXACT thing... Fixed it by re-wiring the ground sensor, still hitting above 260+, told the dealer and got "well thats the only TSB I have for that problem, nothing else we can do" Pisses me off!

My temp just started jumping around the last few days. Goes from a steady 240, quickly hits high 200's, jumps to 300's, warning goes on, then goes back to 240. Turn A/C on/off and it can jump wildly again. Seemed to me to be some sensor issue as it doesn't seem like oil temp can jump up and down 80 degress within a couple of seconds -- but I really don't know. I had the TSB done years ago and it worked fine for years. So now is this a ground issue again or how do I know when a sensor is really bad? or how do I know when the temp is really an issue?

I'll take it to the dealer, but wouldn't mind knowing a bit more before heading in.
