2006 DTS Brake Replacement, When Normally? I have 43,000 miles 70% highway. Should I be thinking about replacing brake pads front &/or rear?? When have some of you been replacing? Thanks

Thats really hard to say...

With 70% highway... the pads should last a long time. Probably TWICE, or more, the mileage you have on it now.

It, of course, depends almost entirely on your driving habits.

My '06 has almost 40,000 miles on it, and the last time I had the tires rotated, (a couple of weeks ago), I looked down in the top of the calipers, and the pads (as near as I could tell) appear to be at about 50%.

I "USUALLY" get good life from brake pads. My 1999 Chevy work van had 130,000 on it before I had all the brakes done.

I just sold (last month) my 2002 Ford Taurus, with 90,000 miles. Still has the original brakes on it.

I "THINK" the Cadillac has wear sensors in the pads that will tell you when they need to be replaced.

Someone will correct me if I am wrong.

I am not so lucky. My 2006 DTS is 24 months old, with 19K miles, and I just had to replace front pads & turn rotors for $297. I do live in upstate NY where snow & salt can accelerate wear, but that still seems pretty bad to me.

Fast Eddie,

Sorry to hear THAT.
That does seem to be excessive wear for only 19,000 miles.
Since you don't have hardly any miles... looks like the dealer would have cut you some slack on the price.
I would be very pissed.

My 2006 has over 39,000 on it right now.
No brake issues with it at all ... SO FAR. :) :)
Hope it stays that way.
I am going to have the tires balanced (hopefully) next week.
You have me a little worried now....I will look at my pads again.

Just got back from road trip (2,380 miles) and now have 49,400. Had oil changed and they said I still had at least 40% left. I had a 2003 before I got this one in June 06. Really like it a lot better. Had a few thousand miles so I'm glad I have the GM Certified 6yr 100k bumper -bumper, I'll keep it at least another 1 1/2 yrs. Haven't had any major issues with it.

When I had it in they pulled the fuse on the heated wiper fluid. Said part will be in November, who knows or cares really.

Take care all

What great idea! I just walked out to the parking lot, looked up fuses in the index of the owner's manual and pulled the fuse on the heated washer fluid. By the way, it's the fuse block under the hood, not the one under the backseat.

After all these years I finally bought a house in 2006 that actually has an attached garage and so now the only thing that the washer fluid heater could effectively do for me is to burn down my car, garage, and house.

About the brake pads... I had mine in for service last week and they said mine are at about 40%.
I now have 48,000 miles on it.

I am thinking of getting the GMPP warranty. Anyone have any FIRSTHAND experience with them?

I probably should pull the fuse in my heated washers also.
My garage caught on fire last in November 2006, and burned up my first 2006 Performance Sedan. Don't need a repeat of THAT.

If I parked it outside, it wouldn't be so bad.
Insurance would probably pay more than trade in and I could get me a new 2009. :) :) :)

I had with $100 deductible never used on 2003. Got rid of it at about 60,000 miles I think. Depends how long you'll keep it.

I plan on keeping it to AT LEAST 100,000 miles.
That will be about three more years or so.
