Bud this might be the worst and the best of owning a Allante! Why did I buy this? It was perfect but I didn't need it! But somebody, someday might! So I bought the 5$^Q^&(()&&^^^ thing. I have $13 + $9.65 for shipping tied up in it. ( Actually cost $10.45 to ship. The seller returned my email and will refinish for $20 ea. Go figure what makes us buy Allante parts on Ebay!

Don't quite know where to post, so I'll try here! Bought what I thought were 16" CTS wheels ( not delivered yet) from a 2005-06 w/o center caps.

See them posted on ebay all day long but they reference 17" wheels.

Did the same wheel come in 16" and 17" as stock on these wheels. Does anyone know the part numbers for these different size center caps? Thanks!

Do you happen to have that address of the person who refinishes? That may be something I am interested in.

best place to find an email is paypal ... it stays as part of the permanent records of transaction details.

Hey King of Search (or anyone else)

Am taking apart the center caps to be re-done. Does anyone have a paint brand or code that matched the center cap. Preferably a buzz-bomb that can be bought for $5 or so!

i got the code for the paint, i can hunt it down if you really want it, but it wont match the fading silver after 15 years in the sun.

advice .. if they are not chipped, take them apart, and rub them down with polishing compound, spray them with clear coat and you are all set w/o changing the color.

advice #2 .. there are several outfits that do nothing but refinish rims at your house / driveway, one hr type of service. sort of like the guys that do windshields. I'm sure they will do the center caps just the same.

if you have the code, I'd appreciate it.

Wheels PAINT is probably PPG 33448. Silver Gray Poly

I should add that to the "Cadillac Allante XYZ FACTS", right ?

Was able to find a very close color at the local parts shop. The Cadillac emblem comes off very nicely. The wreath unfortunately needed masked off and all the indentations were a PITA. From one foot my magic paint job looks bad, on the car they look great.

Great fall job while watching football! (The masking, not the painting.)

play doh / plato can be easily "pushed" with a plastic putty knife to the edge of chrome .. used often to cover emblems when they cant be removed.
takes a bit of practice but it works wonders. takes time and effort.

my custom painting crew would also brush (with tiny brushes) VASELINE on the areas that we didnt want painted, but you cant do that in the sun and you cant get it on the surface to be painted. again, requires time and effort

taping is for "low grade" detail work, the $199 paint jobs. slap it on the whole car in 8.3 minutes.
not for use on the $3,000 paint jobs ..

BTW, they often use the same paint for both the $199 and the $3,000 paint jobs, the difference in cost is the detail work before and AFTER the spraying is done.
