One of my local dealers is beginning their pre-order tomorrow and he said that along with the fast Black being available with the normal Light Platinum, Thunder Grey that for 09 Crystal Red and Blue Chip will also be available.

Still no White Diamind for those hoping for it.

Seeing how I've owned 20+ black cars, tell me more about this Black Ice color Tony. :yup:

Side note - Stormtrooper white diamond will be kick ass with the right supporting tasteful touches.

As far as I understand it from our paint supplier, Black Ice is pretty much Black Raven with crushed glass added to the clearcoat layer. As such, all the metal flake sits above the color coat, making it extremely "sparkly" (for lack of a more masculine word ). It looks Black at night and in the shade, but Charcoal Gray metallic in direct sunlight.

It's still foggy and crummy here at 8:15- when the sun comes out, I'll take a few photos and post them up here.

If it's the same guy who didn't know the colors, I wouldn't bother.

Tony,

I would love to see the blue and red also....any cars on the lot with those colors? I know the red is available in the CTS, the blue might be a new color.

And what's your thought on the Ebony/cashmere interior? It intrigues me.

Thanks.

He drove both my CTS-V and STS-V and claims it's my fault he's now ordered an 09V. Hopefully I will get to drive his after it's broken in. :) He's been an SUV guy for many years.

Here's a picture of a Blue Diamond DTS I posted in a different section of the forum. It's very similar to the Black Ice in that it looks a solid color from 10 feet away, but on close inspection there's a LOT of flake in the paint.

The Crystal Red is the same color offered on the V6 CTS, so here's a picture of ejmachad's car from the 08 forum:

It's still too cruddy outside for the camera to pick up the Black Ice. I'll post a pic when it clears up and the sun comes out.

As far as the two-tone seats, I think they'll look pretty awesome. The only downside is that you can't get that option with the Recaros, so it will be the standard CTS seat in Ebony with a Saddle (brown) insert. This interior doesn't exist yet, so I made a (very crude) Photoshop to give you an idea what it would look like. Hope that helps.

No problem Chris.

Here's the Black Ice: It's still overcast, but if you look at the area around the flash reflection it'll give you a pretty good idea what it looks like in the sun. It has a comparable amount of metallic to the Blue Diamond pic I posted above.

Ah, thanks for the Black Ice info Tony. My current drive-to-work beater has a similar paint called black sapphire metallic. It seemed cool at the time but now I wish it was just plain old black. Looks like Raven for me. :)

On the other side of the pond, Black Ice (Black Sapphire Metallic) is the base paint and the upcharge is for the Jet Black (Black Raven).

Curious.

The pictures above in no way do the Black Ice justice. I was split between Raven and Black Ice so I walked the lot to see the paint in person last week. After I walked by at least 20 Black Raven CTS, and only 1 Black Ice, I decided on Black Ice. It just looks a lot deeper and is not going to show every flaw as Raven will.

Rarely do pics do real justice to the actual paint(s) appearance in sun or shade. Especially the non standard colors.

Very true. I think the Black Ice is sharp as heck, but some people think it has too much metal flake and looks like a dusty black car. It's all personal taste. If you're thinking about ordering a 2009 CTS-V, stop by your local Dealer and look at the colors on a DTS (since they're available now).

Mine looks like a dusty black car everyday . . .

Thank goodness for a California Duster.

Black ice will also be a harder color to match and will make scratches stand out more. Some people like a lot of metal flake and some people think it looks too much like old boat paint. I feel if you are going to get black, go with regular black because it is a deeper black.

I stopped by my dealer and he had a 2009 CTS in Black Ice, so I got to see it on the "same" car. I am going to stick with Black Ice.

Huh? I have a black H2 (http://www.hummercommunity.com/garage.php?do=viewvehicle&vid=3) (my 4th black ride in my life), that gets driven in the woods a LOT, and a solid black is not the way to go if you are thinking of buffing out a lot of scratches. Hehe. But my dig with Black is that it only takes one bad buff to haze it up or leave the orbital rings swirlies on it. Maybe I am wrong on this, but I have never seen a metal flake paint that was harder to maintain than non-flake black.

The sales guy that walked with me even told me they detail the paint twice on all black cars to get it to look right, but did not on any others.

My 2 cents, you may need change.

Tony, thanks a million for the pics. That red looks stunning, but the two tone seats with the Crystal Red might not look all that great.

Black Ice or Blue Diamond with the 2 tones might be the way to go.

Again, thanks for the pics.

Tony A guy who wants to buy the new V asked me about availability. I sent him your way. You may have to explain a little about buying from a distant dealer - not sure he's ever tried but I think it is very likely he will get one. I've been posting OT on some other lists about the worlds records the V is breaking ;-)

Black? What black? I love that special edition "4x4 brown", though; it seems to be somewhat of a rare color on H2s :bouncy:
