Thought I'd pass this along, Best Buy is shipping MacBooks for 900 dollars, 200 off retail. Keep in mind the Mac community has been speculating that there is a replacement on the way for the MacBook, so you will have the old model in about 2 months or so. Still a good deal.

Damn that is cheap. I payed $850 for my refurbished 2GHz MacBook.

They usually sell out quick. Not surprised by that at all.

Honestly... I don't think it's that great of a deal. I suppose for someone who must buy brand new it's a decent deal... but Apple constantly has refurbished units in the $900-1000 range and since they come with the same exact warranty as a brand new machine, I pretty much consider those new for all intents and purposes.

Now... if anyone wants a really good deal, Macofalltrades.com has a 1.83GHz Core2 Duo MacBook w/1.25GBs of ram for $799... and for anyone without the desire to bastardize a Mac by running 'doze on it, they have a final run, 15" 1.67GHz PowerBook for $699...

Hey Goff I just sold my iMac to Mac of All Trades. 17" Core 2 Duo. I loved the thing, just stopped using it when I got my MacBook. I've dealt with them several times and they are super easy to work with.

Wholeheartedly agreed. I will not buy a brand new machine for the same reason I will not (with my GS being the one exception) buy a brand new car - I simply can't justify the sheer waste of money due to depreciation... the only thing that depreciates as bad, if not worse than automobiles is personal computers. To that end, Mac of All Trades sits amongst my top "go to" vendors when looking to purchase a new (to me) machine - the others being Wegener Media, PowerMax, and every so often the Apple Store via their Refurbs section. I've purchased about half a dozen machines from MOATs over the past decade or so as well as having sold/traded-in two machines (although I've found that PowerMax tends offer a bit more on trade-ins) and I've always found them to be a pleasure to deal with... Not to mention that I've never had a single problem with any machines I've gotten from them.

I haven't really purchased anything from them in the past couple of years now, simply because I was fortunate enough to have found a connection with the co-owner of a fairly large PC recycler in the Baltimore/DC area. A quick email off to him and he'll usually have what I'm looking for within two weeks tops.

Regardless... they're a fantastic company to deal with and I still check their listings on a fairly regular basis.

craigslist is a great place to pick up macs. Got a 17 inch apple studio LCD display for 20 dollars because it had something leaning against it in storage which left a mark on the screen. Lucky for me I know that the more LCD's run, the better spots liek that will get!

Also picked up a G4 powerbook there too. $450 for a 1.5ghz G4 1.25gb ram superdrive 12" with 2 or 3 scratches and NO DENTS! Battery was near dying, the previous owner didnt realize it was one of those recalled, so I got a fresh one form apple!

I love the 12" PowerBooks. They are great machines. I wish Apple had made a replacement for it.

I love the 12" PowerBooks. They are great machines. I wish Apple had made a replacement for it.

And in their world, they somehow think that the MB Air is a suitable replacement for the old 12" PowerBooks. I don't think they quite realize that they 12" PB's appeal wasn't entirely centered on the weight, but instead the overall compact form-factor. It doesn't matter if the Air weighs four and half ounces or not... it's footprint is still basically that of a regular MB - there's no such thing as a subcompact notebook with a 13.3" widescreen display.

I still hold out hope that they'll come out with a true subcompact notebook with a 10-11" screen.

But then again... I'm still waiting for my "prosumer" modular desktop - I'm certainly not the only one who needs more than a Mini... but doesn't need a built-in screen, nor the overkill power of a Mac Pro.

Unfortunately, as much as I love the company and their products... Apple is definitely one of those companies where you can wish in one hand, sh!t in another and see which one gets filled first.

Thats why I bought this powerbook. On the tiny desks at UNC, theres no room for my 15 inch widescreen dell and my notebook. a notebook with a small footprint like this is perfect.

I'm trying to go to macworld in january. Who else wants to go?

I know its pricy, what sort of cost am I looking at? I've heard its 200 to sit for the keynote.

I'm in college and I fear if I don't go before I graduate, then I wont have a good excuse to justify doing it later, like now I can say "I'm in college, you do dumb things."
