Thanks, everybody. Got roasted at a car show yesterday (about 100º) so today has been pretty quiet. How'd I get to be this old so fast?

How the hell did I leave the cool and breezy midwest and end up in the scorching hot evergreen northwest?

How the hell did I leave the cool and breezy midwest and end up in the scorching hot evergreen northwest?Fortunately, our heat waves west of the Cascades don't last too long. Forecast is for 80s and a few 70s for the next 10 days. And it's rarely humid here like in the Midwest, East Coast and South.

So Jesda, are you in Spokane? Let me know if/when you're coming down to Portland. I'll splurge on a tank of gas for Betty and drive up.

Happy belated birthday Gary, why not take Betty out for lunch? You can have a Burger and she can have a super sized 92 octane combo with octane booster.

Happy belated birthday Gary, why not take Betty out for lunch? You can have a Burger and she can have a super sized 92 octane combo with octane booster.Fortunately, Betty runs fine on regular 87 octane. With a 20-gallon tank and only about 11-13 MPG, filling her up has gotten pretty painful, so I only do it about once a month, meaning I don't drive her as much as I'd like.

Have another car show on Saturday, then a road trip to a car show and to see friends in Washington next weekend. Getting the exhaust pipes-to-manifolds tightened up (missing a bolt on both sides and I can hear the leak, but getting a socket wrench to them looks damn near impossible) and having the carburetor checked for optimum tune on Thursday. The carb hasn't been touched (other than me futzing with the automatic choke) since it was rebuilt eight years ago (it's the original Rochester 4GC — precursor to the Quadrajet).

............. and take Hoover, too!! Get him a double cheese whopper, large fries and a large water !I have been known to share my drive-through goodies with a certain mooch in the back seat.

Hoover always goes to car shows with me. I won't go to a show where well-behaved dogs aren't welcome. He has his own cooler filled with ice water and I keep a backpack with treats, regular food, poop bags, a tie-down and toys whenever we travel. I also have a sunshade just for Hoover. We needed it last Saturday.

Oddly enough (and I knew you'd like this Gary, which is why I brought it up), I spent most of my Sunday afternoon at the Apple Store in the Mall Of America, browsing at the new iPods and Macbooks and getting my iPod diagnosed for a problem with the battery.

I've used their Genius Bar (pretentious name for Tech Support) on several occasions and have gotten minor issues resolved pretty quickly.

Yeah, they're a good place to go for support. But whenever I go into an Apple store, much like going into a VW dealer or a Starbucks, I get a faint vibe of smugness and cold, distant arrogance.
