I just got my AC Delco remaned starter today and plan on switching it out tomorrow on my 89 Fleetwood Brougham. Any reccomendations or tricks on this particular job on how to do it best? I thought my alternator would be easy and it turned into an all day struggle so I'm taking the preemptive this time around and gathering some insight......

Thanks.

This change out is pretty straightforward. Clean the surfaces where your ground straps mount to the mounting bolts and the at the block. Make sure to remount the forward mounting braket, if it is there.
While your doing this, check your ground cable. If it is an aluminum stranded cable, check the cable for swelling. If the cable is swollen, you'll find it is corroded on the inside. Replace it. Clean ground cable mounting points to ensure you have good ground. You can use some grease to ensure these points don't corrode.

I agree with NYjets. Clean as much as you can

Well, I replaced it, it starts just fine. It even sounds like an old Caddy starter, like the one on my '76. However now the car doesn't run right. It stalls out after a few seconds without the gas pedal. It's always something...... Ugh.....

That wouldn't be the starter. The starter only operates while cranking, after that, the engine is basically on it's own. What's you ISC and TPS ratings?

I'm an idiot.....

I was letting the key go too early. Haha, I tried it this morning and held it even longer than my wits wanted me to and it fired up.......

I guess I'm not used to the new sound the starter now makes. A second before the engine starts, the whining sound changes its pitch, I thought the engine was starting so I would let go. Sometimes I forget a carb needs a little more crank than an F/I system.....
