It's a great day in America. The Supreme Court ruled that citizens have the right to arm themselves for protection in their own homes. The rights extend beyond the most basic right to self protection. Hail Columbia!

This is truly a great victory for gun owners. I suspect you will see a sharp downward trend in crime in DC. The NRA is now expected to file suit against the city of Chicago for its gun ban.

One of our most basic rights is to bear arms and defend ourselves. The modern day reason is that of home invaders, but it was actually written into the Constitution as a means of protection against the Government should the need arise for armed revolt (as it did with the Revolutionary War).

A Government that doesn't allow its citizens to arm themselves is one to fear.

Whats the first thing Hitler did when he came to power? Disarm the citizens.

Australians were disarmed including long guns and the new vocation of choice is home invasion. The crime rate skyrocketed.

An unfavorable Supreme Court ruling would have turned all that history and ownership into so much crushed pot metal if the anti-gun freaks had their way. Look at dkoz' post on what happened to Australia and Great (?) Britain after the nationwide gun confiscations. A few selfish special interest liberals are constantly trying to change the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights to suit their own socialist goals.

It allows a home owner to make a choice as to whether they wish to have a handgun for protection in their home and the "state" not being able to pass a law preventing them from such. So much more so meaningful for areas like D.C. that deal with high crime rates.

A "gun control victory" would have opened a can of worms for every radical fruitcake and splinter organization to begin grooming our fundamental constitution for their own special interests. One of the most dangerous, next to Hillary Clinton, is a man named George Soros who dumps vast sums (billions) into organizations that support American Constitutional changes and repeals.

"We the People........." is just that, and carries with it the implication that the majority stood for the Declaration. My take is that you learn to speak English, stick your paw up in the air and utter "I pledge allegiance.........." and get on with the good of the country. If you want special dispensations and considerations, go back whence you came.

We've already got that covered here in Alaska. If it's legal for you to own a handgun you can carry it concealed and you don't need a permit.

I say gun control is like imposing a speed limit, and criminals that use a firearm are like speeders. Say, for example, the speed limit is 55 mph. You and I obey the limit and operate inside the law, while criminals speed through town at 100 mph. Instead of catching the criminals, they just impose a new speed limit of 35 mph.

The new level of control only effects the law abiding citizen, while criminals continue to speed through town at 100 mph. :thepan:

I bought my gun in case things went the other way, but fortunately, they didn't. The Supreme Court knew fully and well that tying gun ownership to the militia clause would have only increased the number of militias. I need to go to the range tomorrow to celebrate!

This is the same half assed argument the anti-gun crowd was spewing 14-15 years ago when states were considering concealed cary permits. We know now that the opposite is true. States with concealed carry have lower violent crime rates than those without. It seems that criminals dislike their victims being armed.

Why do people believe that gun owner's first instincts are to shoot and kill someone "like the old west?" These politicians should look out into their own violent streets and realize that the criminal element is already shooting up the streets, and by restricting (legal) gun owners they are giving all the power to the criminals and stripping the law abiding citizen of their protection.
