This car is immaculate, and only has 960 miles. That means over 16 years the car has only had an average of 60 miles a year! Damn, talk about a garage queen.
BTW to anybody who cares, think I am getting a Seville at the end of the week. 2000 STS w/54k miles. Sterling Silver w/Pewter interior. Getting some work done to it now, but boss said it should be done at the end of the week. Playdrv4me 06-22-08, 11:06 PM So I was on AutoTrader tonight just looking around at different Cadillac's, and I found this:

Hehe... just kiddin. Congrats on the Seville!
As for the Allante, that is probably the nicest one you will ever find from the BEST possible year AND in the second best color (after white diamond) to boot! My concern would be however that with such low use there are probably several parts and fluids that are brittle, acidic or need to be changed entirely. In some ways, non use is worse than normal use. ryannel2003 06-22-08, 11:16 PM Hehe thanks Ian!
I was thinkin the same thing when I looked at the car. The car looks like it was well maintained, but you can never tell from the pictures. I've seen 3 or 4 Seville's that look great in pictures, but are hell in person. Playdrv4me 06-22-08, 11:25 PM Hehe thanks Ian!

I agree... That whole ad is just very unusual. For such a unique and special car, he took pictures of it WET on a crappy day, next to an F250?
Then he says something about Carfax records, but nothing meaningful about any serious dealer maintenance history. Sounds a little mystery-meatish even though he does know his stuff about the car... :suspect: < Love that smiley. dkozloski 06-23-08, 12:03 AM Probably one of those cars they drag out of the junkyard to show how XYZ Wax will polish a car in ANY condition. ryannel2003 06-23-08, 12:34 AM Interesting. Just ran CarFax on the car and it was last reported on by the DMV in 1994, and the car had 1030 miles on it at that time. Hmmm... something sounds fishy here. I~LUV~Caddys8792 06-23-08, 01:20 AM http://images.autotrader.com/images/2008/6/14/246/498/7511482358.246498403.IM1.10.565x421_A.562x421.jpg
Good lord! Look how crystal clear those digital displays are! ryannel2003 06-23-08, 01:47 AM There is no doubt the car is in amazing shape. From what I've read, the '92 is the best year of them all. Don't think I'd pay almost $26k for a car as old as that, especially an Allante. Checking the forums, the value of these cars are dropping off quickly. I'd rather buy a cheap one with higher mileage and try to restore it to the best it could possibly be.
Plus, you know that car has to have something wrong with it. 60 miles a year? Damn, I can drive that in one day. I even saw a '93 Allante going for $22k with 60k miles. Hah, only a completely idiot would pay that. I~LUV~Caddys8792 06-23-08, 01:48 AM I'd still take a '93 over a '92, just because of the additional 95 ponies. Hmm:
- It might be a good idea to close up the battery compartment after you jump start the car and before you take pics.
- It might also be a good idea to clear the low a/c refrigerant message before you take pics.
- That wrinkled leather on the passenger seat just doesn't seem right - especially with only 960 miles.
- The red on the driver's doorsill looks mighty flat - like a poor repaint.
- Also, what's with the bright red paint around the hood latch and the red speckles? Overspray and an attempt to hide it?
- If you're going to wash a car, why not dry it? (It's not rain, the pavement away from the car is dry.)
- If you're going to vacuum the car, why leave the paper on the driver's floor?
To paraphrase Shakespeare, something is rotten in Turin. ryannel2003 06-23-08, 10:13 PM Haha wow, I never noticed that. Looks like a fluke to me. tman2093 06-24-08, 01:53 AM There is a depression in the console armrest as well. Haha wow, I never noticed that. Looks like a fluke to me.
I notice stuff in pictures, but I forgot to use a checklist when I took my car for a test drive. I never checked to see if the radio worked. Doh! Stealth 06-25-08, 11:48 AM I'd still take a '93 over a '92, just because of the additional 95 ponies.
Sorry to burst your bubble .. but .. them 95 ponies wont help much under 120 mph, meaning a race track or the euro-autoban.
additionally, the 4500 can be easily overhauled, easily up-mod its performance, easily supercharged .. the Northstar .. well .. give it a try and be ready to flip your pockets inside out.

950 miles, 5,000 miles, 10,000 miles .. dont matter .. cars such as this one keep surfacing a few times a year.
usually these cars were purchased by some mis-guided "collector" with investment in mind .. a bad decision from the get-go. Aside the basic bad decision to buy a car like this for collection, there is the bad decision to buy one of the least desirable combinations: Red, digital, NO hard top, it is a NU126 instead of a NU100.
this car will most likely bring the $25k of there abouts but think about it .. that is 50% of the MSRP and that is in 1992 money. Assuming the seller is the original owner, he has lost about 75% of the investment.
If I was a collector (I am not):
1) a '93 would be very last on my list, with the exception of a Montana Blue and that would have to be a VJ4 series.
2) a Red any Allante wouldnt be on my list at all (and know that I like Red cars) as they are way too common.
3) it would have to be a "10Xxxx" series not a "12Xxxx" (last 6 of VIN), no matter what year or color.
4) mileage would be less important than the proper interior/exterior combo and condition.
5) it would certainly have to be a ANALOG cluster.
These car's value keeps on diving, cost a bunch to maintain, finding new parts .. forget it, you are at the mercy of the donors ...
but .. that is me

The 4500 has just as good acceleration to 50 mph as the Northstar. The only time the Northstar shines is speeds well north of that. As far as modifying the Northstar for more power, you are out of luck. The engine can hardly even hold up to it's own stock power output. These engines are plagued with headbolts literally pulling out from the block. Once this happens, if you're lucky, you can timesert the block but otherwise, the engine block has to be replaced.
Something else worth mentioning, is the 4500 could also be replaced with the 4900 block. They are identical physically but the 4900 has a longer stroke. I would estimate one would gain about 25 hp doing this swap and would have around 225 hp. This however would put an additional strain on the transmission since it's already pretty tender at 200 hp. ryannel2003 08-24-08, 07:35 PM Is this "Montana Blue?":

I love the Q&A the best .. Invest $60,000 in 1992 money and in return collect $25,000 .. excellent way to get rich ..
BTW, the highest price selling OEM Allante in the past 5 years sold in Phoenix for about $30k in '07, around 20,000 miles I believe. The modified folding hard top Allante, was much more.
A POLL? I know how to do that on all the other sites, but in this site, the method eludes me.
one last thing .. it is a 1992, in my opinion, the best of the best model years. My guess, maybe $20 to $25k.
except for one thing .. 1G6VS3382NU126253 .. NOT A HARD TOP SERIES.
The "investor" wasnt thinking straight there either and didnt get a NU100XXX series car. DUHHH !
IF it was a 100 car, maybe it would hit $35,000 or more.
Q:
how is it that this beautiful car has only those miles? thank you doc

It was bought and put away for investment. only started and driven very few miles to keep everything well oiled and working. thanks Butch

It is assumed that if one acquires a low mileage car, the condition can be improved by hitting the parts market, IMHO, a correct assumption where a car shows age and stress.
So, what is a low mileage car? It varies, but I assure you that at 130,000 miles, an Allante is an unwanted commodity no matter the model year or the color. At around 60,000 miles it is considered low mileage. Crazy ideology, but is is what it is. Remember, it matters not what year model.
Lastly, in a world of valuable LOW MILEAGE cars, the Allante may be about he easiest car I have ever known to tamper with mileage .
HOW? As I see it, you need THREE things.
1. A car that has been off the public data domain (ie .. CarFax), or fell off after 10 years of not being registered,
2. DIGITAL CLUSTER; analogs do not read the BCM PROM,
3. low mileage BCM or BCM PROM from a low mileage donor.
Unlike the analog cluster, the digital cluster does NOT hold data, but reads it from the computer.
The PROM in the BCM retains the total original mileage for a car in memory.
~ From Allante XYZ Facts
Not everything is what it seems to be.
Verify before you buy, specially when the buy is high priced.

Is the mileage readable from anywhere in the diagnostics?

Is the mileage readable from anywhere in the diagnostics?

Bill, not that I know off!
The ANALOG cluster is mechanical and you pull it and transfer it, the mileage goes with it unless you OPEN IT and turn the wheels back, which CAN BE DONE in minutes - and -- it is highly ILLEGAL. Shady dealers do it all the time.
The DIGITAL cluster does NOT hold data, it simply reads the PROM in the BCM. So you can swap digital clusters all day long and they will all show the same mileage.
IF you really want to know the true mileage of an ALLANTE, you have to do the following:
- plug in a digital cluster and see what it reads
- check public records, such as carfax, to see a history
- maintenance records printed in DEALER LETTERHEAD are also excellent in providing history and mileage - THAT IS WHY they can be so important.
- compare records and look for discrepancies.
I assure you that at least some of those "low mileage" 30,000 mile Allantes are not so. Hey, buy a new or rem BCM with empty PROM, install it, drive car for a couple of years and you got a 30,000 mile car.
Between you and me, I have serious doubts as to the avalanche of 1,000 to 25,000 mile Allantes I have seen lately. It is possible, but is going to be rare, really rare.
I saw, in 2006 I believe, an Allante that was "found" locked into a back room after the owner died. OK, that one is most likely one if not hoax.
I am sure that I am not the only one that has spotted the quirk of the Allante crowd and desire for "low mileage" cars .. someone, I bet, has made a few extra $$$ cuz of it.
BTW, what is the street price of a BCM ? $50 !
How about a "low mileage BCM ? $250 ? WHY ?
I will let you answer that !
One last thing .. can someone tell me how does one remove a car VIN from public records?
Dont tell me you cant .. I have had THREE cars removed from public records and re-instated and each was done in a different manner.
.
.
. Allante buyers aren't unique with their focus on low-mileage units. I came from the Corvette community and there is just as much, if not more, focus on odometer readings. My 81 had just under 29K miles on it when I bought it in 2005. It still had under 30K miles when I sold it this summer.
One of the reasons I bought the Allante I did was to have more of a driver rather than garage queen. Sure it supposedly had only 33,xxx miles on it, but due to the repaint and sun damage on the dash cover, it will never be perfect. I just want to get all the mechanical and electrical items sorted out and drive it. If it gets a door ding in the parking structure at work I'll curse, but I won't stress out about it.
