View Full Version : Saw a Challenger yesterday. Orange SRT-8 sitting on the dealer showroom. That thing is HUGE. The dealer also had a $17,999 markup on it. I guess theres a sucker born every second.
Even worse was the red GT500 vert sitting right behind it tht they want $70K for. lawfive 06-21-08, 03:10 PM I was hot for the Challenger for months after the concept was first shown. I'm over it. thebigjimsho 06-21-08, 03:13 PM I was hot for the Challenger for months after the concept was first shown. I'm over it.Thank goodness someone has sense around here... Chicano-Mexicano 06-21-08, 03:47 PM My dad wants one, but I bet after he drives it he'll come to his senses. 93DevilleUSMC 06-21-08, 04:23 PM Orange SRT-8 sitting on the dealer showroom. I still love the Challenger, but only a jackass would shit out an extra $17K for any car. There is just no damn way she packs enough extra options to justify that kind of markup.
Update us in a few months when that thing is still sitting there. I~LUV~Caddys8792 06-21-08, 04:59 PM There's an ass for every seat. urbanski 06-21-08, 06:02 PM :challenger: Cadillacboy 06-21-08, 06:55 PM :rimshot: CTSV_Rob 06-21-08, 08:34 PM I liked the concept, production version is a let down. 17K markup is to funny.
It's not that special now, if it would have come out say 10 years ago with the same specs they might have been able to get a decent markup.
They will find an ass for that seat though. A friend saw one on the road yesterday (text me) , so I guess they're out. freemaSSon 06-21-08, 09:51 PM about a month ago i was coming out from a range we use for training in carrollton off beltline under the bush and i saw one on beltline.....i hammered down on it to get up with it in my LS7 441ci TBSS and was all over it trying to get him to hammer it.....i was curious just what exactly they had to offer but the dude didn't even look at me.....it had michigan tags so i assumed it was some special program car here in the DFW for some special event and the dude was moving it from one spot to another.....
my understanding is the entire 1st production run is 100% sold so this mark up crap is just part of the mopar standard MO......put the BEST out first make VERY FEW of them and get the hardcore buyers out that will just THROW money at em to reclaim some of their youth.....not a bad way to do it as far as business since.......GM puts 1 million turds out there and then makes a cool setup out of a turd.....ie my TBSS and many many other platforms they have tried to REVIVE with something EXTRA............ dirt_cheap_fleetwood 06-22-08, 02:34 AM My uncle is thinking about getting one simply to have the new and the old. He currently owns a 1971 Challenger that is painted Hemi Orange. Its not fast because it has the 340 with the 4bbl carb, but damn does it look good and sound great. ryannel2003 06-22-08, 05:16 PM My dealer has one with the same $18k markup. I told my friend "I can find plenty of other things to buy with $68k, and that car isn't one of them". However, I will say the car looks better in person than it did in the pictures.
Still, that markup is ridiculous. Only an idiot would pay that. 17k mark up. :histeric: They did the exact same crap with the SRT Jeep and SRT 300 when they came out. There were some elitists that bought them and then couldn't trade them for firewood a year later. Give it 8-12 months and they won't be able to give them away. Saw an '06 SRT 8 Cherokee at a dealer lot for $25k just 2 days ago. Very cool looking truck, I just have absolutely no use for it.:cookoo: .i hammered down on it to get up with it in my LS7 441ci TBSS and was all over it trying to get him to hammer it.
What color is your TBSS ? (Did you happen to be at the track in Denton yesterday?) EcSTSatic 06-23-08, 12:07 PM My uncle is thinking about getting one simply to have the new and the old. A lot of the 'cudas and Challengers came with the 340. They can make a lot of power in either the 4bbl or 6-pack flavors. You sure he doesn't have the 318?
I was too young, but when the Challenger T/A came out, I really wanted one
http://www.challengertaregistry.com/photos/vintage/1983_moparnats.jpg Still a nice car... will be even more so once they hit the used lots. dirt_cheap_fleetwood 06-23-08, 10:22 PM Its definitely the 340, but it has lost much of its power. Most of the car is original and he keeps it sheltered as best he can but it is still showing its age. It will only chirp the tires from a dead stop and we are too afraid to try a brake torque. |
