Shawn4.0 06-20-08, 11:55 AM The only the way thing was done on the cheap was the fact he did it. The satisfaction factor was large. And, it was an honest $50 in materials, a couple hours of painting and sanding everyday for a week or so, and then the buff out. True, the buffer I bought cost more than the paint materials (and bodywork materials, come to think of it), but it's a -great- buffer. Painting and sanding EVERYDAY for a couple hours (3-5?) for "about" week (so like 8 days?), imagine the costs if this was at a shop. If you have that amount for time available for a solid week I guess. Looks good though, have some withdrawals about anyone attempting this in any other then white. The Tony Show 06-20-08, 03:01 PM My Grandfather used to love telling the story about how he painted his Black Packard in the same manner. Several coats of black lacquer with a paintbrush, then sanding and sanding until it looked like glass. Destroyer 06-20-08, 03:56 PM I'm dying to actually try this on a car. Looks like fun!. dkozloski 06-20-08, 05:54 PM A couple of us painted a guy's '49 Chevy with bituminous septic tank paint using a broom. He was not impressed. Florian 06-20-08, 06:07 PM college roommate and I painted his 70 buick in black primer with a roller in the Tech Building parking lot in about an hour. Then the hardtop was sawzalled off and a bat symbal went on each of the 2 doors and voila, instant batmobile. F AMGoff 06-21-08, 01:10 PM I remember seeing this a while ago... I've been tempted to try it myself for quite some time now. dkozloski 06-22-08, 03:08 PM There was a lot of beautifully finished furniture created a thousand years before the air compressor. All it takes is elbow grease. | |
