View Full Version : Another Title in Boston...this time it's the Celtics... thebigjimsho 06-18-08, 01:20 AM While I'm not a Pats fan, it is fun to have so many successful teams in Boston. I went to the parade for the Pats in '02, the Red Sox in '04 and I went to the parade in '81 for the Celtics.
Now, I get to rekindle all those incredible memories of the C's of the 80s and yesteryear. 131-82. Lakers go down.
Long live the most dominant franchise in all of sports!!! Red_October_7000 06-18-08, 02:12 AM I'm not a big fan of Basketball but I really got into this one. Considering I hate the Red Sox and the Patriots, I was very pleased to be able to root for a local team. I was even more pleased when they took home another title after so long without one. Hail the Conquoring Heroes! thebigjimsho 06-18-08, 06:16 AM While I'm not a Pats fan, it is fun to have so many successful teams in Boston. Long live the most dominant franchise in all of sports!!!Oops...131-92... dkozloski 06-18-08, 02:37 PM Boston is a great town. I love to hear the people talk with that accent and the 200 year old street signs are picturesque. I particularly like the ones that say, "Thickly Settled Area". It's kind of weird to drive around and realize it's been there for three hundred years and you still can't make sense of the politics. Long live the most dominant franchise in all of sports!!!
Those obnoxious f'kin Yankees fans will disagree (26 titles in 39 appearences). I hate the NHL but Im sure there are plenty of Habs fans that will disagree with you too (24 Cups in 33 appearences).
I am happy for Rondo. Good to see he still has some game and that Tubby didnt totally destroy him. thebigjimsho 06-19-08, 12:27 PM Those obnoxious f'kin Yankees fans will disagree (26 titles in 39 appearences). The Yankees have 26 titles in 107 years.
The Celtics have 17 titles in 62 years... dkozloski 06-19-08, 04:08 PM The last interesting Red Sox team featured Ted Williams and it's all down hill from there. In the history of the game there have only been three players that the members of both teams stood up to watch everytime they came up to bat; Ted Williams, George Brett, and Ichiro Suzuki. thebigjimsho 06-19-08, 04:23 PM The last interesting Red Sox team featured Ted Williams and it's all down hill from there. In the history of the game there have only been three players that the members of both teams stood up to watch everytime they came up to bat; Ted Williams, George Brett, and Ichiro Suzuki. It's not only batting. Pre-roid Clemens was great fun to watch. And I still think Pedro Martinez in his prime was as dominant as ANY pitcher in the game...ever. dkozloski 06-19-08, 06:50 PM I spent an entire summer at Dodger Stadium watching every game I could possibly attend. Not only were the pitchers like Drysdale and Koufax accessible to every fan that came early but they went out of their way to talk to the kids. The players on the opposing teams like Willie Mays, Robin Roberts, Stan Musial, Bon Gibson, Bob Friend, and a host of others did the same thing. I'm willing to bet that many kids had their lives turned around by being able to talk to their real heroes. The only sport where you see anything remotely similar today is NASCAR. I was sitting in the stands when Sady Koufax who had the most dominant season on record carried his second no hitter in a row into the seventh inning only to have a blatant error scored as a hit. Even the Giants players came out of the dugout to protest the call because they knew they were seeing history in the making. I caught a home run off the bat of Frank Howard that went so high in the air that it disappeared above the lights and I had to wait it out until it came back into view.
This was early in the Viet Nam war and I always went to the game in uniform because the surrounding fans wouldn't let you spend a dime of your own money.
In one game the Dodger center fielder beat the crap out of some clown that tried to run out on the field and burn the flag. The flag burner was lucky to escape with his life. It's not only batting. Pre-roid Clemens was great fun to watch. And I still think Pedro Martinez in his prime was as dominant as ANY pitcher in the game...ever.
Dwight Goodens short spurt of greatness generated that as did Fernandos amazing season. |
