Im looking for an alternator for an 04-05 CTS-V, but I cant find. I tried a ton of salvage yards but came up empty handed. I dont want to go to the dealer so if anyone can help please do.

If all else fails and your are somewhat mechanically inclined. Just bust the housing apart and replace the brushes. Thats the only thing that goes out in them 99% of the time. You can get brushes anywhere they rebuild starters and alternators.

Try a local rebuilder. I know one here in missouri but he is in the middle of moving his shop. Should be one near you. I'm guessing not under warranty? smaller towns are the best to find rebuilders though

Might want to check cleveland pick-a-part, they usually have a V or two in thier inventory. They seem to specialize in wrecked hi-po cars.

Thats a shame. Especially when you consider how rare these cars are anyway. Owell, I gues my car is even more rare now!

Wow, those are brutal photos. I like the one with the roof cut off, and the black '07... I'd like to hear that story!

i can guarantee with the one with the roof cut off they rolled it to remove the passenger, you can see the displacement off the door on the passenger side, they popped the dash and rolled the roof to extract with full immobilization, probably to get a long spine board in there, not because they were trapped.

hmmm... are we sure its not the same alternator as a vette?

i know its probably not but its a shot in the dark.

and why not just order one through advanced auto or something, they have a nationwide parts network and will order you parts and have them shipped.

Advanced doesnt show anything. I could get one from GMpartsdirect.com but I dont really want to spend $400.

Thanks for the help though.

We have an '05 in the shop that needs one.
Luke said there were 3 left in GM stock... in the whole country!
One of them is gone because it is on its way to me for tomorrow!

I haven't tried rebuilding one for years, generally speaking they are not hard to rebuild.
The only issue is how to get parts.
I don't think GM even makes internal components available to us anymore so I am not sure where you'd get them.
The PCM is in charge of the generator so it isn't like the older units where parts were plenty and cheap.
