Can someone tell me how many o2 sensors a 97 sts motor has. 4? I changed the ones before and after cat. And the one facing the drivers rad fan on the header. Is there another one? Thanx.

Rear bank exhaust manifold is your missing link. Not easy to change on 99 STS - FSM recommends lowering the rear of the engine cradle. Don't know if you got the same fabulous design in 97.

Same crappy design

Pep Boys couldn't get mine out so they left it along and it's a good thing because it was the wrong O2 sensor anyway. I'm told the emissions places might be better at taking it out because that's what they do(raped you) in order to get you to past the emission test.

the firewall sensor is tough to reach. you need a sensor socket or a "crowfoot" wrench. its fairly large, 1-1/16 i think. the coolant tubes are right above the sensor so its hard to get the socket on. thats why the crowfoot works better. sometimes.

Would it help to drop the cradle down on the rear?
