I really like the look of these cars and the feel of the ride and drive. If I find a clean model with a good service history, would these cars make a nice weekend driver?

If you find a nice one in good shape, I would say go for it. You only live once.

Not sure what engine the '80 had. The '81 had a Diesel, V6 or the 4-6-8. '82-'85 had the HT4100. It had a hard time getting out of it's own way.

1980 was the 368 V-8. I can't remember if it was a 4bbl or EFI, but it was a decent motor. I'd definitely stick with an '80 or '81 if I didn't wanna do any motor work. If I wanted to modify it, I'd go up to 1983, because in '84, they changed the pleating on the base model seats and it didn't look as luxurious.
