: Buyers Beware

Just a quick note to acknowledge what a great resource this forum is and how helpful it is to all of us.
But with all good things, there are those that try to corrupt something that is good. For every thousand of decent hardworking stiffs trying to get by, there is always one bad apple in the bunch that is out to take advantage. I learned from experience and it cost me a $55.00 lesson - please beware of those offering parts for sale.:nono:

Why would you post this and then not provide the name of the offending individual(s). That doesn't help anyone and raises unnecessary doubt about ALL of our vendors.

Now that he mentioned it; there's at least several members of this forum that don't bathe regularly.

Ah yes, Fairbanks, Alaska, a leading city in communications technology .... is it Alaskan petro royalties at work, or something out back that you forgot about along with the Spring Thaw!

I call BS until we get details about the vendor and the transaction. Anyone selling here is accountable to the site. If you really wanted help, you'd post the vendor's name and the circumstances surrounding the alleged rip off. Until then my low post count friend .

Last post 12/22/07  So you got ripped off in December and you waited until now to post about it...er...to vaguely gripe about it without providing detail.

I give your rant 0.5 out of a possible 10.

At $55, it certainly wasn't a world class transaction.

o0o, we can rank people's rants now? I declare a rant-off and then we all vote as to which one was the best.

For the record this is the last correspondence I received from the individual on February 13, 2008 - my check was cashed on December 15, 2007 -- I wrote four letters trying to resolve the matter as well as writing the administrator of this forum -- i did not like to expose this without trying all that i could - but i am at wits end - he has my money and the mirrors - shame on me for trusting someone -- thus my warning for all others - know the person before throwing your money down.

Well not much you can do if the guy doesn't log on here anymore. Can we contact him and provide him a link to this thread and ask him to respond?

I'm IM'ing him now.

I say give him one more chance to make it right and get you the mirrors. Sometimes stuff does really happen.

That is why I waited 6 months for action to be taken - I have failings myself -- so I do not want to be quick about judging a fellow being -- but I think a flag should have gone up since I had done a search and it seems there were a number of "deals" going on all at the same time -- and if there is a rotten apple in the bunch it is best for caution.

I appreciate that you're a gentleman, but that's BS in my opinion. When you buy something online you have a reasonable expectation to receive it within (at least) 4 weeks. If an item is backordered you have the same reasonable expectation to be notified of it's backorder status to have the option to cancel the order and receive a refund.

If you paid for something over 6 months ago and never got it, that = FRAUD.

If the guy's really been away on business that's the only possible excuse. If you don't have the mirrors within 72 hours, go after him.

I have sent five letters to him (none returned) no emails no response. What do you suggest I do to go after him?

Start with the Internet Crime Complaint Center here: http://www.ic3.gov/

Send him an email notifying him of your action, and let him know that the local authorities in his township will be next. If you've sent him letters you have his name and address, and if he has ever sent you an email then there are ways of tracking him through his ISP.

Even though it's only $50, go after him with the same vigor you would if it were $5,000. Your actions could prevent him from doing it again.
