View Full Version : What About The Cadillac That Got Away? tenmark 06-04-08, 10:27 AM What about it? I'm sure we've all passed up or missed out on all kinds of GREAT Cadillac deals. What's your favorite "I shouldn't of let that one get away" story?
Back in 04, after selling a low mileage 90 de Ville, I was hot on the trail of a Fleetwood. Wanted to get back to RWD and wasn't sure if I wanted to go with the 91/92s or 93/96 body style. I had owned a 94 FWB Previously and hadn't had the earlier style in a good while. So I was on the warpath.
Ran across a black on black 91 Fleetwood Brougham d' Elegance. Even had the Astroroof and wire wheels. Super NICE one owner car. Small town Mayor bought it new and he wouldn't budge from $2,800. I tried and tried to get him down to $2,500 but he just wouldn't do it.
Hell, looking back, I should have gladly paid the $3,000 but in the angling I got angry and entrenched myself at $2,500. I let the haggling beat me, really. So I left. Told him I'd think about it over lunch. Big mistake. That's when he sold it.
Well, that's the way of it. Lesson learned. Good lesson learned. I always feel if you honestly feel the price is right, it is best to pay it, unless the risk is worth it.
I lost a killer software package that I really really wanted on eBay. $100 buy it now, or the low bid was like $2. I held out and then forgot at the last min and guess what??? It sold for $5! It sold NEW for $1500+. And is uber rare (for PCM/ECM tuning, the great grandpa program). Crap! Lesson learned, I should have bought it now, I had the $ and it WAS worth it. CRAP CRAP CRAP! That happened to me recently. Actually a few times. I was looking for the amber light rolling-code version of Homelink. I usually do BIN but these were regular auctions so I put them in my watch list. Well I forgot...twice. I am tired of auctions honestly. Oh look, an article that agrees with me!

I still regret not buying Destroyer's hot rodded '91 Fleetwood.
The last one I missed was because I let my buddy have it. He had been wanting one for a while and I was just buying it to make money... so I let it go to a good home instead. I~LUV~Caddys8792 06-04-08, 11:42 AM Back about five years ago, in June of '03, I was sixteen years old and I desperately (sp?) wanted a pre 1993 Brougham. I had found a pretty nice, low mile '87 Brougham that was triple navy, with the cloth interior, and the owner only wanted $1,000 for it. Anywhom, I didn't have a licence yet, but I had a job, so I asked my dad if I could buy the Brougham. He said no because I didn't have a licence, and he didn't mind giving me rides to work. Not to mention my parents hated that sort of big ol' Cadillac. So it got away and I never saw it again. Cadillacboy 06-04-08, 12:33 PM I liked the most '80-92's style till I came across my Fleet :bouncy: tenmark 06-04-08, 01:39 PM http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd251/tenmark262/DSCN7270-1.jpg
Kev, got that homelink too .... make me an offer! You need a heritage medallion too?
Auctions don't work when you've got rampant shill bidding, last minute bidding, and last minute sniper applications. Kills the spirit of the auction. And then there's dead beat bidders to waste your time with and steadily increasing listing and final value fees.
"Buy It Now" works best with offer feature on non-automotive auctions (got another strategy there) so long as you have it set to close only with immediate PAYPAL payment only. And NEVER accept the best offer - instead drop your price if you want to sell it. That again requires immediate payment.
And always, and I mean ALWAYS, immediately withdraw your funds from PAYPAL. If for any reason, the buyer complains, PAYPAL will freeze your funds until "they" make a determination. Which could be months.

http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd251/tenmark262/DSCN7568.jpg Well I did finally splurge for a BIN amber. It was from an 03. Cool that it plugged right into my 95. The middle contact appears to be unused on my harness (both the 03 and the one in your pic show a middle contact that my red light unit did not have) and it works with my garage door after I had it learn the code, so I'm all set. Need to sell my red light model, though.
And I don't think I deserve a heritage medallion - this is my first Caddy! Let someone have it who has a fleet! tenmark 06-04-08, 02:19 PM Ahaha Yea. Cadillacboy 06-04-08, 04:46 PM yup ;) lochenjons 06-04-08, 04:47 PM well here's my story. back in october of '06 i was looking for a 65-70 cadillac two door hardtop peferrably with no vinyl roof. i found a cherry cherry one it was a '67 calias with a pretty shabby interior but an engine to make a grown man cry. it was a stroked, cammed, 472 with flat top pistons and a complete valve job. i never got the accelerator all the way down to the floor because it scared the crap out of me test driving it. $2000 dollars out the door. body was perfect, primered and ready to go. the guy even said he would lower it to $1800 cause my girlfriend was hot. i tried to talk him down to $1500 but he wouldnt budge and i lost the car. but then as most of you know i found my '69 coupe for $500 and an engine for $600 and with a complete interior and straight body. all that for $1100! so im guess im glad i waited. i'll never forget driving that car though....

I've also, missed out many times before:
I missed out on a mint 92 d'elegance with wire wheels for $2,000.
And I could've had a mint '83 coupe deville with only 35k on it. It was black with deep red d'elegance interior. Still had covers on the passenegr and rear seats!! Owned by an old lady whose husband used to be the executive of the Bell telephone company. She died and left it, her house, and countless antiques to her lawn man!!!!! she had no family. Well the guy wanted $5500 for it, but at the time i had just gotten my license and really only had 3,500. My parents offered to chip in $500 so i offered him $4k but he wouldn't budge!!! I was so upset. I have never seen a nicer interior in my life!!!
Even on new caddies! Any ways I missed out, but it did have the ht4100.
But man she was a beauty!!!! Still makes me mad though, cuase the guy got it for free and was already getting hundreds of thousands of dollars from selling her house for simply mowing her lawn!!!:annoyed: My_favorite_Brougham 06-08-08, 03:16 PM Here's mine, and it actually got interested in Cadillacs long ago (well only a couple of years ago):
I was camping near a small Texas town, and when we went into town I saw this 1959 Sedan Deville Flattop. It was pretty rough but not at bad as some 80's Cads I've seen still in service. In fact this car ran and drove, and was even being used as a daily! I knew right then and there that I had to have it. So i went into the nearest general store and asked "Ya know who owns that old Cadillac over there?" And the guy said, "I do, and it's for sale at $1700." I was thinking SWEET, and he showed us the car. But of course I didn't have the cash on me. So I went home (without leaving a deposit; d'oh!) and came back two days later with the cash in hand. But she was gone... Turns out a guy from the Cadillac Ranch bought it, and stuck it in the ground, and now she's toast... :(

I have wanted one ever since, but I stuck with ones I can afford for now. So the 80s/90s will have to suffice for now, and they do. :)
