Okay I love my new Brougham to death, especially because of the color. It's wonderful! But it just kills me to see those few rust bubbles. I have two on the passenger-side doors, on the bottom corner of the driver's door, and a slight spider creep thing at the bottom of the front passenger door?

Can these be fixed? They really detract from the otherwise beautiful paint. I's really like to put this car in a couple of shows, but that rust makes me real weary. I'm afraid it will spread, and spread fast. I'm even reluctant to wash the car.

I just hate to think of big bubbles that pop and spread and get orange residue all over the car. But can they be easily fixed with Firemist paint? I know Benzilla did wonders with a rust hole on his red '79 CDV, but this car has a clear coat and metal flakes and all that fancy stuff.

Take a look:

Here she is!

Here's the door rust; it's the only place where it comes through (just bigger than a quarter)

This is the front passenger door

And the rear (spiders above the pinstripe)

And this is that little spider. :(

Anybody else have these fixed? I know it's pretty common on these cars, and I've seen how it can progress quickly. Anyone have a clue to the cost?

Thanks for looking!
Greg

Haven't fixed any rust on a Caddy, but my (limited) experience is that if the paint is bubbling, it's not protecting the metal underneath any longer. Worst case the panel is actually rusting from the back side in which case you will need to either cut out and replace metal or STOP the rust (various products for this) and fiberglass. And then you have the fun task of matching the metallic (that's what firemist means) paint.

Those are normal areas for rust. Just get some estimates from body shops to fix it it isnt too hard for them. Firemist paint wont make any difference if they know what they are doing.

The longer you wait the worse it will get. It's got a good start now.

The pitting on the door handles is common. Your from Dallas? Shouldn't be that much acidic rain in your area, but maybe. Cars from up in Seattle way are soaked most of the time, but the rain up there must be about acid free as their chrome ( and Cars ) are nearly rust free. I don't know what it would cost you but, you might get new from GM. Replating is $$$$$$$$$$$$$s. I know.

Well apparently the car is originally from Flint, Michigan and then the owner moved to Hot Springs, Arkansas. But it boasts a garaged paint job, just some pitted chrome and rust under the paint.

Sounds like the garage paint job wasn't prepared properly. Michigan is well known for the salt thrown on the roads in those Great Lake Winters.

Good Luck.
