88 Brougham, stock configuration.

Got the trans rebuilt In Feb 2007. Guy rebuilt it, had to take it back twice to get it to work right. Finally he got it working right and worked for a year, then had a grinding noise and slipped. I asked for a stronger rebuild, they obliged and put a grand national kit in. Took them a month to figure it out, got the car back, didn't want to upshift, or downshift. Took it back 3 times, got the car back and now it will work fine for 20 minutes but after that it hesitates slightly during acceleration and won't down shift 2-1 unless you really force it.

Should I drive the tranny into the ground then bring it back, or just sue them for the full $1990? ($1290 for the original rebuild plus $700 for this rebuild)

I'd say the whole thing. If it never worked properly, then the job was never really complete. Doesn't this guy have any type of warrantee? Especially if you could show that the second rebuild was caused by the malfunctioning transmission. Good luck, though. Let us all know what happens.

I'd consult a lawyer, but you will probably need documentation from other certified mechanics that the transmission is malfunctioning. If you wait long, though, to file suit, that will look bad so you may want to persue it in good time. Also, try to settle first before suing.

I wouldn't drive it into the ground. If the guy doesn't offer a warrantee, he'll just say it's your problem at that point. Or, worst case scenario, as a result of your engine revving due to shifting problems, your engine blows, that will be your problem as well.

Anyway, talk to a lawyer and see what he says. I had a similar problem, and after some begging, the guy is taking the tranny out so he can fix the problem at no charge.

have fun!
