View Full Version : 92 Brougham Issues after Tune Up- Wants to Die Out

Been quite a while since I have posted, but I will get right into it.

Did a tune-up on my 92 Brougham (5.0), new plugs, new wires, new distributer cap, new rotor, air filter. Have not had a chance to install the fuel filter yet.

Cut to today, I finished up installing the wires, low and behold there are issues.

Of note, the plugs are pre-gapped, not to regap etc.

The car starts without any issue, but then starts to chug for about 10 seconds (sounds like it wants to die out). Then the engine runs smooth (very quiet, quieter than before), and my Service Engine Soon Light pops up.

I double checked the firing order, and it is spot on (although when it is light out, I am going to recheck it yet again).

The code pulled from the Dash is error 33 - Map Sensor Circuit Low Vacuum.

I have yet to attempt to disconnect the MAP sensor to see if the issue clears up (again, when it is light out). But was wondering if anyone ran into a similar issue?

I did a search - turned up nothing concrete. But those rear passenger side plugs are a pain to get at due to the AC compressor, my arm is all cut up!

But if anyone has any insight, it would be appreciated!

Thanks,
CJ

Edit: was a bit dark out, but I disconnected the electrical to my MAP sensor, and the car started without any sluggishness. I take it either the sensor is hosed, or the vacuum line is busted?

You either broke the line or accidently disconnected it. Follow it from the underside of the MAP sensor to the back of the TBI. Very easy to trace. The car will run like crap with it disconnected as manifold pressure is a primary ingredient in speed density fuel calculations.

Thanks! I am thinking the same too, that I either cut or managed to jam the line in when I was replacing the Distributer Cap. The vacuum line is still connected on the sensor side, did not trace it out fully (was dark).

Hopefully it will be an easy fix! Will report back, Thanks!

Things can accidently become disconnected when doing a tune-up.I recently had a tune-up done on my Caddy and the mechanic accidently disconnected a very small vaccuum hose which caused no air from the front vents,no parking brake and no cruise control----all 3 systems killed from 1 disconnected 1/8" diameter vaccuum hose.
I found the fix from helpful members from this forum.I made a copy of the fix, took it to my mechanic to read and he had it fixed within 5 minutes.
Helpful members on this forum have solved many problems for me and i always return the favor when i can.

I hope yours will be an easy fix!

Well, the line was disconnected! Plugged it back into the Throttle Body, and she started up fine! No chugging at all, and no service engine soon light!

Thanks a ton! Now the car runs much smoother now, idle is quite low, very quiet!

Next up, I need to fix (or rather have fixed) the rear suspension (springs/shocks, want to keep the air ride), replace the cupholder (it broke!), get new "nubs" for the levers for the AC vents (anyone know what there called?), replace the drivers side outer window sweep, replace the power antenna, and the roof.

Still a big list, but a lot of those things are small, easy items!

Nevertheless, thanks a ton!
