View Full Version : Door Lock Decoration DopeStar 156 05-29-08, 06:46 PM I'm sure we've all seen this little mod before. It's somewhat popular among the RWD Fleetwoods and that includes my 89 Fleetwood Brougham which is pictured here......

In the case of my 76 DeVille the locks are plain in comparison. I can't slap wreaths on them since the car doesn't have the wreath on it anywhere, but instead sports the V. Then I got this idea......

I started looking at it and thought it looked cool. If you love it, awesome, if not don't freak out, it's just on with a small piece of scotch tape for the picture.
I thought I'd get some feedback on this since I've never seen it done with the V before. What do you think, beauty, or butcher? 1990CaddyBrougham 05-29-08, 07:00 PM Do it! Be different!
I put the wreaths on my 90, and will be putting them on my 81. but both have the wreath ornaments.
V it up! steveanonymous2 05-29-08, 08:19 PM I really really like the v as it would match the v's on my 68, but I just cant bring myself to do it DopeStar 156 05-30-08, 01:27 AM Looks the idea is getting some good reviews...... mharker 05-30-08, 11:05 AM Sorry I don't dig the v, nor the crest for that matter. If the original Cadillac designers would have thought it would look good, they would have put them on in the first place. My_favorite_Brougham 05-30-08, 01:46 PM So when you put the V's on (assuming you don't use scotch tape), what adhesive do you use to stick them on? Where do you get it?
'Don't mean to jack the thread, but I need to reattach some emblems.. and I need the same stuff you're gonna need. It's kinda like a thick piece of foam, ya know.
BTW, those V's do look good; it really sets off the retro-Cadillac look... the days before the wreath!
Greg BluEyes 05-31-08, 01:30 PM Looks gaudy, IMO. People already know it's a Cadillac. Definitely a case of less is more. Old Fleetwood 05-31-08, 05:44 PM Brougham!:
3M makes black attachment tape, DOUBLE SIDED for EXTERNAL automobile emblems.
It should be available at any good auto supply store.
The stuff will hold up after years outdoors. DopeStar 156 05-31-08, 07:13 PM Brougham!:

If I decide to do it, that's the route I plan to go..... deVille33 05-31-08, 08:14 PM Someone makes a key guard for that area. It's to help people who have a hard time finding the lock in the dark and don't want to scratch the finish. It's usually a clear plastic with some graphics on it, and the graphics are usually the same color as the pinstripes. Must be something available through body shops. Warren_R 06-01-08, 06:14 AM For some reason, I'd figure the chrome V would look better on a darkish color than a light or very metallic one. But that's just my preference for some contrast; car mods of any sort should suit the owner, not the public :) Steeltag 06-01-08, 03:08 PM Mharker,

Its a subjective thing for sure, I dig the crest, unsure on the 'v' but to trust the caddy designers? Are you sure? They produced some hideous looking Caddy's too, wouldn't always trust the design dept.....plus they are governed by accountants as well as well as gov't regulations which can dictate the looks as well. caddeville89 06-01-08, 05:36 PM Mharker,

You mean like the Seville??? Steeltag 06-02-08, 08:18 PM I was thinking more like the Cimmaron ( did I spell that correctly?), but then again, I'm a closet slant back Seville fan....too.. Destroyer 06-03-08, 11:16 AM I voted no cause I just dont like add-ons to a cars body. I like it more when people remove all uneccessary chrome from a car like moldings, emblems, etc. Thats what I did to the wife's Mark VIII. Painted the chrome front grille, chrome strips under headlights and removed side moldings with chrome strip and replaced it with painted LSC side moldings. Much cleaner look. If I bought another RWD Caddy I'd do the same thing.

Certainly you can't be talking about the first gen 76 to 79, right? | |
