Hi, heres a story for you all. I don't post here too much, but I do read a lot! Anyways I'm 18 and I USED to have a 1979 Western Saddle Firemist Fleetwood Brougham, that is until my parents had it taken to the junkyard for 150 dollars!!! Yeah, after me and my friends rebuilt the 425 and everything my mom said it was too "unsafe" blah blah blah. So I was really pissed, I mean that was my first car and I went through all of high school with it, and a lot of stuff happened in that car, etc. In fact I couldn't stop thinking about it until I found this 1978 Fleetwood Brougham D'Elegance in Western Saddle Firemist!! It has 57,15x miles on it, and drives and runs very good. It will probably need a carb rebuild soon, and I have all the records from the little old lady that owned it! Anyway, I think of it as the older brother to my old car. It has a lot of things in common with my old one, which is kind of weird, like the passenger rear window does not roll down, the ceiling is tacked up with the same kind of pins, there is a small scratch in the same exact spot as my old one, and it has the same "air-raid" type alarm system, which was installed by the same company that put the one in my old car (York Auto Alarms, Berwym, ILL) This car appears to have every option except the sunroof and built in CB. And since it is the D'Elegance, it has THE SUPER SOFT SEATS!!! I though the velour in my '79 was comfy, but this is much better!! Anyways I plan on keeping it stock and not replacing anything especially not the stereo or wheels. It has its little flaws, but I have to say it is indeed in much better condition than my old one ever was. I felt like I was missing something until I found this car... and my friends feel the same way because I was the only one with a car, so we all used to pile in the Cadillac to go everywhere, and now we can do that again!

I hear this color is more rare, especially for a Fleetwood, so if anyone could elaborate on this I would appreciate it, thanks!

Sorry I don't know how to enlarge the pics, if anyone knows please tell me

Does this car have rear discs? Or am I thinking of the 77-79 DeVille?

Cool story, except for the part about your parents junking the other one. That Western Saddle Firemist is THE best color for those 77-79 deVilles and Fleetwoods.

That's sensational man. What a car, and cudos for wanting to keep it original like that. I love those color-matched discs that some Fleets have, so good on ya in regard to keepin' them! :D Awesome color too.

This car should have the rear disc brakes, and alum. hood, wouldn't it?

I'm really interested in the old school mechanical siren car alarm. The de-activation key caddy crest thing is totally neat. Are those common in the states, since none of you guys have commented on it yet. I've never seen anything like it up here.

I love the '77-'79 Fleetwoods, but all I've got is a Sedan deVille. Fleetwoods are a bit more hard to come by it seems... and in that shape?? Boy howdy. You're a lucky man. Congrats, and keep her waxed up. She's very sharp.

Be grateful you got a chance to correct your mum's foolishness.

Thanks guys. Yes, it does have rear disc brakes and I believe it has an aluminum hood. I don't know how common the Cadillac Cover on the siren is, I know I've seen a couple cars with those old type of alarms but I've only seen one other Cadillac with a cover over the hole, most are just there. You could probably find the siren on ebay or in the junkyard as my friend just pulled one of a '78 Lesabre. It is pretty fun to drive around and scare people with cause it sounds like an air-raid siren! You can turn it on and off via the "emergency panic switch" under the dash while your driving. It also flashes the lights and locks the doors when you flip the switch.

Hahahaha!! Oh man, the things you could do. The things you could do. :D

Oh and to whoever was asking about rear discs, correct me if I'm wrong but I thought 4-Disc brakes were only available on the Fleetwood, not the Deville, so you should look for a 1977-1979 Fleetwood if you want 4-disc brakes. Also, does anyone know what the first year was for the "Level Ride" this one has it, and its a '78. I thought I saw a '76 with air-ride also, but maybe someone could clarify, thanks.

One more thing I~LUV~Caddys, that CB in the picture also has a PA function as many old CB's do, so of course I have my megaphone already hidden inside the grill, that also works well when you want to get someone's attention!

Did some quick research and it looks like you're right - only Fleetwoods. Which is funny, since that's the opposite of what you expect. I understand the discs on the Seville but the "traditional" Fleetwood? When you look at how few toys and gadgets they got that one still surprises me. Though for 80 they went right back to drums so I guess it didn't work out.

Very nice find. Some guys go much longer looking to replace that car they had in high school. A little detailing under the hood and she's nearly show ready.

Yes I guess I'm pretty lucky to find another one with so much in common, it was as if fate set it up so I'd get another one, just in better condition... well at least thats what I think :)

Beautiful car! Just a quick note on the brakes, the Eldorado also had four wheel discs. Also, level ride dates back to at least the early 1970s. I've seen 1971 models with the feature.

Thanks for the info 77CDV! I didn't know the air ride thing was available from that early on and I also forgot the Eldorado when mentioning the four disc brakes!
