GM Reports May Sales of 446,787, Up 6.5 Percent

Another Industry Sales Record for GM Trucks - Bested Prior SUV Sales Record by 18 Percent
--

DETROIT – General Motors dealers sold 446,787 new cars and trucks in May, up 6.5 percent compared to May 2003. This was GM’s best sales performance for the calendar year-to-date. GM’s truck sales (276,746) were up 11 percent and car sales (170,041) were flat compared to year-ago levels (-0.4 percent).

“We had our strongest sales results so far this year, with trucks leading the charge,” said John Smith, group vice president, GM North America Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing. “Consumers are weathering the passing storm related to the temporary increase in fuel prices and voting their preferences by purchasing record numbers of pickups and SUVs. A strengthening economy combined with record vehicle affordability allowed consumers to purchase vehicles of their choice. Although we have seen little evidence that rising fuel prices are impacting sales mix, GM is well positioned in this area, offering more fuel-efficient cars and trucks across more vehicle segments than any other manufacturer.”
.

Cadillac – Cadillac continued on pace to surpass 200,000 sales in 2004. Total sales in May were up 36 percent (21,110). Truck sales increased 108 percent, led by Escalade sales (3,849), which improved 40 percent, setting a new May record. Escalade ESV sales improved 59 percent (1,708), its best-ever sales, and Escalade EXT deliveries gained 12 percent (960). SRX had 3,253 deliveries, up 47 percent over April and its best sales month since launch. CTS sales continued strong with 5,579 deliveries, up 25 percent from year-ago levels and a new monthly record.

I'm willing to bet that this sales increase is due in part to LED ZEPPLIN......

I was so shocked that Cadillac would even put a song like that in their commercials; They finally realized that grandpas aren't the only ones who drive Caddys. And this is what they get for it.

In the end its the car sales that are really going to show if Caddy can make it....I really could care less about the trucks.....Caddy's next objective is to get the "Truck" image off of it in my opinion.

WHY??!! Cadillac's job is to sell vehicles, not just cars. If people want trucks, then give 'em trucks! If I could afford an Escalade, I'd have one today!;)

If Cadillac would set their MSRP closer to the transaction price I would feel much more comfortable with my purchase an it's future resale.
I can't see how $9000 off on Escalades can be good for a brand's image.
CTS had had almost no incnetives until now.

Seville sales are down 84%!!! Is that because they no longer sell the STS, or is it because people are holding out for the '05 STS?? Hmmm....

Probably both... they still sell the SLS though, but maybe people who buy the Seville want the V8 yet the sporty handling and speed too without buying an XLR. SLS may have the handling, but not the speed.

Me too, and maybe if my family takes advantage of that Gov Business Tax thing we will. But the increase you see is not because people are really wanting the escalade its because they are practically giving them away for the equvilent priced discounted Tahoes, Suburbans and Avalanches bring in. People will realize that gas is actually getting higher and higher too. I see navigators sell for almost MSRP and I see Caddy's here sell for sometimes over $10 grand off of MSRP. People are seeing that an Escalade is nothing more then a "Trim Package" to an equivlent Chevy.

I dont mean to sound like Escalade bashing but that goes for a lot of so called "Luxo" Brands.....stick w/ what your good at making....Caddy is finally showing that they can make really great cars that are just as good or better then their European counterparts.....just look at Chrysler....they have the next Hip-Hop Escalade.....and its a car.
