I had the options down to, well, loaded. That is Black Raven w/ ebony and all of the Luxury packages, Seating, FE2 suspension, DI and AWD. The only other option would have been for premium paint. I understand that the MY09 prices have not been released. However, my goal was to agree to a price based on the current year invoice with the agreement to allow for adjustments based upon a model year price increase. Without factoring incentives, because there are none for my region, on a car with an MSRP of $48,500 (roughly) and an invoice of $44,200 their offer to me was $46,300. Their statement to me was the most (if not all) dealers are able to sell a CTS at MSRP and their offer was fair and reasonable. The number did include a $1k expense for advertising, which according to the dealer, is part of every car sold.

The CTS would not be the first car that I purchased but would’ve been the first Cadillac. Perhaps they are right but I don’t feel so. It may be a case of supply and demand. If so, I will wait another few months or go with a different brand. It is a nice car but there are alternatives.

Regards,
NHman

PS: My expectation was to pay between $500-$800 over invoice.

NHman,

Try another Cadillac dealer. One that does not choose to participate in the voluntary GM advertising scheme, and consequently no advertising fee included or added to invoice. With a lil' bit o' luck and some negotiating, you'll then be on track to achieve your reasonable $800-over-invoice max target.

Just go to another dealer. I can't believe you'd have the PERFECT car lined up in your mind...and then say no when one dealer won't cut an extra $2k (theoretically) off. If they're a standout dealer, okay, but otherwise, go elsewhere...and we have several dealers on the board (Superior Cadillac, Plaza Cadillac, etc.) that have enthusiast sales people who sell to all people at all distances, ship cars, etc. and for great deals.

On such an expensive car, and one that's so hot in the first place, don't let a few bucks (really) turn you off completely. Just go elsewhere. "Deals" aren't a big CTS thing as far as being rock bottom, but many dealers will do very close to invoice on orders, etc. just in general to keep people coming.
