Well, I've had My non-DI, manual 6 spd, FE2, BOSE 5.1, sunroofed platinum CTS for 6 months now. I had always driven Acuras, and was taking a chance on purchasing (and switching brands), based on looks alone when I saw the Silver CTS "concept" in Detroit in January 2007. I had to have a CTS despite vowing not to buy "GM".
My problems started with a flubbed order at the dealer which resulted in a 5 month wait. Next, I found the dealer service completely DISMAL! Then I noticed many of the things I read on this forum's posts...mainly a buzzing sound in the console, creaking and malfunctioning sunroof, faulty sunroof shade, rattling sound in rear interior, faulty power locks and a sound system that periodically "died". I was frustrated and even heartbroken and posted often about my frustrations.
I slowly took advice from other forum members (thank-you!) and did the best thing I have done since day 1...I switch dealers. Then I realigned my attitude and realized that most, if not all my issues were correctable, and that I had to cut this car some slack. All cars had "teething" issues, no matter who makes them. Suddenly the cloud began to lift. My car is still "seeing the new dealer" for minor noise/vibration issues, and I am willing to be more patient. Now I can focus on the things that count. This CTS is truly amazing...it is beautiful, a head turner, spacious, powerful, a great handling vehicle, has a stunning interior, is generally very tight and solid. It is also much more rare (at least in Toronto) than the "dime a dozen" C-Classes, 3 Series and G35's.
Am I thrilled?...almost. I am I giving up? No way! This car has garnered enough critical praise from most auto journals/journalists for a reason...and I am now Cadillac Proud!!.
To those of you who have issues...persevere and hang in there...there will be some vehicles that may not be perfect...which is statistically normal, and I feel for those who may own them. But for the most part, I changed my attitude 180 degrees by just looking at the car's strengths and not bitching about the weaknesses. Am I an Idealist and a dreamer?...maybe...but at least I sleep at night now! LOL!
