View Full Version : Another hiccup: speakers went dead this time... Well one more thing happened to my CTS. I must have gotten one that was made the day vacation started at the GM plant I'm afraid.
6 hours from home I come out of a restauraunt, start the car ready to relax to some Sinatra. No sound. No sound on XM, FM, AM or HDD. I hit the Onstar button and nothing there. Try the hands free phone too and no sound. The turn signals didn't even make any sound!
Everything else functioned fine however. I pull over and restart the car about 4 times and still no sound!
After a looong quiet drive home I put the car in the garage for the night. Really PO'd.
Got up this morning and what do you know it works fine!
I'm going to call my dealer and get it in to have it checked.
I'm wondering if this system is just too complex to work properly.
Any ideas that I can put forward to my dealer?
Thanks. ddawson 05-27-08, 10:50 AM This happen to me 4 months ago. After I parked the car and started it again, it has not happen. There was no need to to take it to the dealer, because there was no problem. I didn't want the service department tearing up my car, when it was working just fine. I was afraid they would work on it and cause rattles. It happened to me once, also. I turned off the ignition and it still didn't work. I was on my way past the dealer so stopped in to have it checked. After sitting with the ignition off for 5 minutes or so, they turned the key and it was working normally. They said they had seen one other CTS with the problem, and they don't know what causes it. WhtDmnd04CTS 05-27-08, 01:54 PM same thing happened to me.. went to class one morning without any sound from anything
got out of class after 45 minutes, started my car and everything worked fine
hasn't happened since *knocks on wood* Good luck with the dealer; they won’t be able to reproduce the problem, so to them it doesn’t exist. :thehand:
Same thing has happened to my Avalanche and my HUMMER a time or two. It’s a software SNAFU in the audio system, nothing serious. It’s like when your PC crashes…a “reboot” solves the problem.
BTW the turn signal “sound” plays through the audio system, that’s why you can’t hear the turn signal when the audio system locks up. cadillacroadside 05-27-08, 02:32 PM this is a problem i have seen many times on the 08 cts, we refer to it as "logic lock", the computer system freezes and the vehicle has some components that are inop, in most cases its simply a matter of disconnecting the battery and letting the system reset, in reoccuring cases (we have only seen the audio problems return) we replace the radio, either way we have only had a few radios, most of the time the logic lock resets Interesting. Thanks for the replies. I have an appointment scheduled but I think I will cancel it and see if it happens again. ddawson 05-27-08, 07:30 PM Good idea. You don't want them taking things apart, when it's not needed. WNBAMiamiSol 07-06-08, 03:14 PM I experienced this today, when I needed the Onstar Turn-by-Turn directions in Orlando. Turned the car off and restarted it. Still NO sound, including AM/FM/XM/Onstar and turn signals. Used the NAV map and drove to West Palm Beach (about 2 hours). Turned the CTS off while getting $20 fuel ($4.29 a gal for regular on the Turnpike). Started the car after refueling and whadda-ya-know? XM was playing. Stopped and restarted the CTS a couple more times over the next 2 hours and no problem. loanofficer 07-08-08, 11:31 AM This happened to my car also..... I took out the fuse and put it back and it work just fine..... GTPprix 07-08-08, 12:14 PM Its the amplifier crashing, unfortunately the Amp/Radio takes awhile to reset and finally go dormant. You'll need to turn the car off and let it sit for about 5 minutes or so for the bus to shutdown. You should be able to restart the car and have it function as it should.. I too have had this issue. C6Vette 07-08-08, 11:11 PM I'll add to the list. I had that happen about 4 days after getting my car. Hasn't happened since. Workaholic 07-09-08, 12:44 AM I've not had the problem yet and am curious if its particular to the ones with Nav. Anyone without nav have this problem and if so, do you have the upgraded stereo? I have the upgraded radio w/o nav. My radio has done this 4 times. This is actually my second radio. The first one had horrible reception... lots of static. Beware that if indeed you get the upgraded radio replaced, the hard drive goes with it... along with all your downloaded tunes. Dualcams34 07-09-08, 10:01 PM [/I]Disconnect the battery in the trunk for about 10 seconds. Then relearn the windows by running them down then running them up until the window stops at the top of the travel. Hold the switch for 10 seconds, the window will work normally I have heard that there is software update at the dealer level. That sucks, sorry BillM.
So far so good with mine. and thanks for the tip about the HDD, just confirms for me that I'll keep playing tunes direct off my USB stick rather than spending the time downloading to HDD. 8gb USB for $30 and will hold about 2000 Mp3's, probably enough for me LOL. At the very least I will have a back up of anything that goes onto HDD. cadillacman08 07-10-08, 07:42 AM same thing here. i turned on the car and b/4 the radio came on i pressed the eject button so i could change discs and the sound stopped. when i got to work i logged on to the forunm and so all the replies. went out to my car and presto there was sound.
working with computers all day i can only say that all of them have bugs in the software. think microsoft windows. i'm hoping this doesn't happen again. |
