View Full Version : We Hit A Bird I know I reprimanded you guys for posting every little thing, but I've got to tell you that as we were driving the other day through the desert (Glamis, CA), we hit a turkey buzzard. Those things are huge! A bunch of them, probably three or four were fighting or something on the side of the road. We were watching this as we were approaching and just as we got to where they were, they all decided to start flying away. Now, you NEVER think you're going to hit a bird. Those critters always seem to dodge the bullet...but not this one.
It was a direct hit on the left headlight, so he was hit to the side. We were kind of shocked, so about a mile down the road we pulled over (you know I was more concerned about my car than the buzzard...my apologies to any animal activists on this site).
Besides the feathers, the left headlight was pushed up a bit. I'll take it in when I'm home.
It was kind of weird. I once was in a car when the driver hit a porcupine. We were taking quills out for days. RustedElvis 05-26-08, 01:44 PM You should have taken the bird home and bbq it on Memorial Day.:duck: RQFinMD 05-26-08, 02:22 PM Poor bird...I mean CTS. A bad situation for one party (hopefully not too much damage) and a sad situation for the other. :histeric:
(Yes, I laugh at my own lame jokes sometimes...LOL!) Maeztro 05-26-08, 03:07 PM I think there was a Seinfeld episode about this... lewisforjesus 05-26-08, 03:17 PM Me too. I hit a hawk when I had the rental from Enterprise. Fortunately, I had purchased the insurance that covered the car. Anyway, the hawk and I collided on the right corner of the hood just above the headlight. Made a nice round dent about 6" in diameter and the impact caused the hood to buckle a little about a foot up from that. It was the red CTS, so the buckle was hard to see unless you squatted just to the correct angle. Anyway, I'm sure it probably cost close to 2K. Lewis dkozloski 05-26-08, 04:12 PM I took out a bald eagle while driving in Canada in my Mazda RX-7. I pulled clear over into the oncoming lane to give him lots of room as he snacked on roadkill and I'll just be damned if that wasn't the way he decided to make his getaway. He hit right at the top of the windshield and made a very slight depression in the top. He didn't survive. ngiardina 05-26-08, 08:23 PM How many people can say that they have unintentionally murdered a bald eagle?? I would bet they are fewer in number than those who have been struck by lightning twice. lordbaby 05-26-08, 08:24 PM Me too. I hit a hawk when I had the rental from Enterprise. last time i hit something, and i found out that it was an ant. DARN! ewill3rd 05-27-08, 08:13 AM When my wife was young some people down the farm road she lived on had peacocks. She would always complain to them to keep the birds out of the road but they never would which caused major delays and aggrevation to all in the area. One day my wife was tired of it and one was out in the road so she pretty much mowed it down.
No more peacocks in the road after that. :histeric:
Animals in the road I consider accidents or even an "act of nature".
We have hit lots of critters. My dad has killed several cats and birds with his car. Sorry PETA but it isn't worth killing the occupants of your car to save an animal dumb enough to camp in the road. lewisforjesus 05-27-08, 10:33 AM oh my bad, perhaps you don't have any sense of humor :nono:

I believe I have a sense of humor (I'm not bragging). I just didn't understand that it was humor (I really wasn't sure how to interpret your comment. The reason for my previous reply). Lewis Zymurgy 05-27-08, 10:51 AM Turkey Buzzard and a Boeing 747 size comparison:
