View Full Version : Gas Peddle Disengage, Re-engage This a 96 FW with towing package, and depending on road conditions and driving conditions, my gas peddle will disengage momentarily and re-engage. I feel insecure in certin situation, especially, pulling into traffic and expecting to step on the accelarator and accelarate quickly, it could momentarily disengage and leave me hanging. Sometime on wet roads, snow or ice it will happen from a complete stop. Any Sugguestion as to what is going on ? ?
Also, not that I have your attention:
When I turn off the ignition the doors lock, I had the impression that the doors should lock when you turn the ignition on !!
At any rate I'm all ears for what you can tell.
Thanks - Hap tenmark 05-23-08, 02:42 PM Sounds like traction control - turn it off and you'll soon forget about the problem you're having. caddycruiser 05-23-08, 06:19 PM Yes, by "disengage" are you feeling the TC system kick in and the pedal push back at you? That would be the traction control, and is common if your tires don't have great traction and you get on it at all swiftly.
Or is it something else totally? Not sure otherwise what disengaging might mean. Old Fleetwood 05-23-08, 10:34 PM I believe the doors should lock when you shift into gear
and unlock when in PARK. When I turn off the ignition the doors lock, I had the impression that the doors should lock when you turn the ignition on !!
In the two weeks I've had mine it's done this 2 or 3 times. Not sure what to make of it. tenmark 05-23-08, 11:24 PM Mine does it enough to be irritating. The 94 I had before this one did it too. So I drive with the tracking off unless the weather's bad. Use it so much, I relocated the switch to the OD cluster!!

Man, these cars are cranky. I'd hate to see what happens in 10 more years. tenmark 05-24-08, 12:04 AM Better than most. Ever drive a Jaguar? No, but I know where you're going with this :) Better than most. Ever drive a Jaguar?
LoL, and I do have an 1994 Jaguar . . . LOL. . . last year I had to remove the V12 Engine. . . to much money for me to repair. . . . So now I'm replacing it with a LT1 engine. . . . When I get the time of course! !
Thanks for all the help I will look at the Traction Control, seems as if everyone hit it on the head.
Thanks tenmark 05-24-08, 02:15 PM I've owned a lot of cars. Most troublesome EVER was a 2001 Jaguar XK8 convertible I had a few years back. At 54K miles it had all the problems of a 350K mile car. Intermittent tail lights, compression/leak down issues, overheating (from cheap plastic coolant system parts), sudden stalling (persistent designed-in computer error), etc. etc. etc.
Most beautiful and truly refined car I ever owned. Looked great in the garage with the bonnet off and tools scattered all around. Sure, there's nice. But then there's N-I-I-I-C-E!! Connolly leather interior, wool carpets, cashmere headliner, expansive burl walnut dash, etc.
In the end, you can't drive the interior, though. And there's nothing more embarrassing than getting all kinds of hoo ha from the Valet only to have his a$$ break down on the way to pick you up. Outright laughable.
Let's get real, a lemon's a lemon. Can happen to any car at any time. But what I went through is an all too common experience. My beat-on ragged out 98 Vette with over 120K was TEN times the car. And then there was the Jaguar pretentiousness you have to deal with. Well, you've got a Jaguar. Went to the dealership once to get parts, big $$$ mistake, and sat around in the waiting area listening to what kind of car do you drive.
