Notice the mirror, dented panel in front of the wheel and dented panel on the rear door (hard to see).

Mirror replaced with one from a 95 RM (slightly brigher white but it's damn close):

The driver's side rear door panel is on top as removed from the car. I was sent a replacement, but it's for the pass side. Oops.

So I tried my hand at pounding out the dent. Never pounded out a dent in anything, ever. Used my dining room area rug as a surface with some give, the heel of my foot to take out the intial dent, then some careful whacks with a rubber mallet. It's not perfect (neither is the car), but I am happy with my work.

It is back on the car. I also replaced the front panel, but it got dark before I had a chance to take a picture. Looks fine. The driver's front door panel was coming off the door along the top where the clips are and I was able to firmly coerce the top of the panel back on the clips and no more gap! Didn't even loosen the screws, though I should have.

I'd really like to replace the front bumper, cracked dash pad...uh oh, better slow down.

Oh, 93-96 owners will find this interesting. You know how the B-pillar cover always wears out and maybe even torn depending on the car? My driver's side was completely ripped showing the black plastic underneath. Get this - I was able to get a brand new GM cover, in the correct dark adriatic blue (or whatever it is) for $58 from GM's "discontinued parts warehouse."

Now I need the cover in that color for the driver's knee bolster under the steering column...

Great work, glad you are bringing it back to life

I can't believe they drilled uneven holes in the front bumper for the license plate :(

You have no idea how pissed I am about that. The unevenness isn't the worst part - look at this RPO code.

VK3 License Plate, Front Mounting Package

Guess it got lost somewhere along the way. I think I am the 5th owner.

I am getting a used replacement from a fellow enthusiast but I'd really like to just replace the bumper. It has a nice dent in the front corner.

Nice work on the molding. Wish i could fix my rocker molding that easily. Mine got mangled from a blow out plus the fact that it was from 1975.

Does anybody polish their panels? Or do they just come out mirror finish after washing? Mine look like they're gonna need a polishing. I use some kinda Mothers metal polish on the Dynomax stainless tips on my Caprice, and it comes out great. Think that'd work on these panels? Then again, maybe I should detail the rest of the car first.

Hey bring it to Benzilla. That guy can detail the crap out of a car. Hey, he could probably fix the holes in bumper and remove the dent. Hehe, just kidding, but he sure knows how to make one shine.

I polish the stainless panels on mine with the Blue Magic paste.

Usually before a car show I will use some windex on them and that gets them nice and shiney and removes any road mess or tire shine that splashed up.

Looks good.

And yes, I actually just polish and then seal all my chrome with whatever I'm using on the paint at the time. They'll generally always shine...but a nice polish (even just a basic paint one, which is fine) works great, followed by a seal/wax to keep them beading water and easier to clean.

Sounds like you're well on the way with "a list". I still have a list for mine...but it was shelved quite some time ago. Maybe this is some inspiration to get my touch-ups started again;)

If you didn't see it in my other thread, here it is with the front panel replaced and washed (after sitting overnight and getting pollen and stuff all over it again).

Needs wax but it cleaned up pretty nice.

Nice enough that when I showed up with it at a family barbeque yesterday most of the comments were something to the extent of "it's in such good shape!" or "wow, it was really cared for." Nope, just cleaned up ok...:cool2:

Gotta do the interior still. And darn that front bumper dent.

Also, the plastic that runs along the base of the top in the rear, below the window - on the driver's side, mine is coming off and I think is causing rattling/wind whistle on the highway. It seems like maybe it was originally held with clips. Any tips on this?

There are little clips that hold that strip on, in 2 varieties, and you can still get both:

I got the white plastic clips for that trim from my local caddy dealer. The clips on the 1/4's are part# 20742994 and the clips for the lower sail panel on the bottom of the rear window that hold the molding are part# 10188888 you need 8 of each number... But I think you can only buy them in packs of ten...

I ordered some in the winter for mine, and all are still available--just like said, you can only order them in a certain number, in their packets. Can't remember specifically what # of each is correct, though.

Then there's also some screws along the very back, in the trunk gap.

Perfect! Thanks! Ordered the clips. Not cheap. The 2994 was $1.27/ea (got 10) and the 8888 was $2.17 (!)/ea (got 10). I also picked up 5 window rollers at an alarming $5.72/ea. So I spent $67 today on TINY WHITE PLASTIC SHIT. Good lord GM...

At least the trim is back down tight and should eliminate one wind noise and POS look all at the same time.
