I just got the cal from XM (due to expire next week). They offered XM Radio for well over $100 a year. I mentioned that I had previously received a letter stating $77 a year (I was lying - thanks to this forum). She said, OK, you can have it for $77 a year (without hesitation). I then inquired about traffic/weather. She quoted me well over $100 for the year (I think it was like $13 a month). I balked at that, I asked her if there was a better deal, she didn't really answer, I said my "letter" quoted a lower traffic/weather price, she asked what it was, I didn't have an answer. So I signed up for the XM Radio for the $77 a year and, for the time being, passed on traffic/weather. I would like to get it. What is the best deal for the traffic/weather?
Thanks.

I haven't heard of any deals for traffic/weather. It's a premium service so I don't see them getting too crazy with discounts. And I'm sure they know you don't have a lot of options if you want to use it either. :)

radio = 77 for 12 months
traffic = 3.99 per month $47.88 for 12 months
and they went ahead and over charge my credit card for almost $200. very funny.

Traffic is $3.99 / month . When you pay say "If I give you my Visa now, can I get another $12.95 off? They will say, yes.

That's $12.95 off the yearly traffic/weather combo of $47.88. Yes?

No,
That's off $77 yearly fee.

This is exactly what I just signed up for yesterday...I hope my cc doesnt get charged for over $200 tho as it should be about $125!! :crying:

I just signed up for the $125/year deal (77 radio + 48 nav) after it had been expired for a couple months.
they charged my cc $110. I didn't specify the 12.95 discount so the only thing I can think of is it's pro-rated to the original expiration :hmm:
not complainin' tho. xm traffic works better than local broadcast radio traffic updates, at least for the expressways.
I asked if nav is available without radio and the answer was yes.

People, don't pay by credit card! :tisk:

When you do, they'll automatically renew you next year at the full price.

Just tell them to bill you and pay by check. That way, you might be able to negotiate a better price next year, too. But give them your credit card and they have you by the nuts.

When did lying become OK? I guess I didn't get the memo...

Lying became okay when there is an arbitrary price on items. Either the monthly charge is $12.95 / month or not. All XM ads and the XM website say $12.95/month, yet they give it to people for less just for asking. If you wish to throw money away because of your high moral standard, go right ahead. I appreciate all the people posting here who got me this rate for XM ($77). I did not use the word lying, all I said for mine, was I heard there was a deal, and they gladly signed me up.

You don't even make sense. "Arbitrary" doesn't have anything to do with anything in this conversation. Matter of fact, it wasn't arbitary since they didn't shut you out and told you to take a long walk on a short pier, did they? If the price is $12.95 and you're able to talk them down, that's great and you get an award for being a good customer they want to retain and maybe even for having excellent negotiating skills--all because you "just asked." The OP is not a case of just asking; it was a case of telling them a bald-faced lie to weasle into getting a lower rate.

Since XM agreed to give the lower rate, apparently the CSRs are given latitude to issue discounts and enter into their billing system--this is commendable on the part of XM. I'm sure the first-level reps are audited by their supervisors and it's obviously OK, at their discretion. Point being, people probably could get lower rates without being crooked about it.

So sorry, but being a LIAR is never the best way into or out of a situation, if for no other reason than it's not how I would like to be treated if it were the reverse, whether it's a person or a company--no matter what you see in the movies. ...My 2 cents, FWIW.
