Was driving my 08 cts down the street, decided to make a ballsy move turning in front of another car (and in my head I thought, if my car stalled, this car would hit me, thank god i'm not driving an old Jeep, etc that woudl stall)

well to my surprise, my car did the equivalent of stalling, all I can describe it as is that i hit the gas, the Speedometer (not the RPM gauge) went past 80mph but the car didn't move, then all of a sudden it jolted and started going again,

luckily the car across from me decided not to run the yellow light, brought it to the dealer, they gave me another 08 cts rental, 3 days with the rental, it did the same thing, wondering / warning others with this problem, dealer says they think it can be fixed by reprogramming

I have had this car in the shop upwards of 10+ times, I wish GM would just keep it, I think its the sharpest car on the road, but sometimes I wonder if I was dumb to not buy the Audi S5 or the Infiniti G37

3 months with the car, its been in the shop the equivalent of 24 days, transmission problems, oil leaks, exhaust leaks, radio malfunctions, window roll up malfunctions, I mean I love this car more than anything, but this car just does not love me, when does it get to the point where you give up!?!

You have the manual?

I should have been more specific to start, my 08 cts is DI, AWD, Automatic, every option (available on the 08), the rental I had was also the same way with the exception of nav.

Does your state have a lemon law; It appears that you vehicle would qualify for replacement.

It does, I'm going to have to look further into it, I have put on new grille, headlights, and done interior work though, I'm sure they wouldn't cover that, it would make me sad but i think i would swallow that for a new vehicle. Unfortunately I'd have to buy another CTS probably though, I don't think I want any other Cadillacs and I think the law says I have to repurchase form that dealer.

Ask dealer to reflash your transmission, could be a software glitch...if it persists, they will replace transmission...

Finally had the dealer replace my 05 srx, it did quite a thump on downshifts...

This is the problem with autos...they breakdown easily...

Don't know about the CTS, but my wife's '06 STS will do something similar. It's the traction control, which can't stand for the tires to even think about breaking loose, and when it thinks they are going to, it just shuts down the power. That has gotten both her and me almost killed a time or two when we were trying to make a "fast break" in a line of traffic.

The part about the speedometer spinning to 80 is strange, though ... that makes it sound like the transmission was going 80 but your wheels just weren't hooked up. Weird. :bonkers:

I have exactly the same vehicle, and can actually duplicate the problem 3 out of 4 times. Going up a small hill and making a 90 degree left turn the power drops off (goes to idle, call it what you will) and then comes back after I complete the turn. Of course the dealer could not duplicate the problem, and it was in for a different issue, which they mostly fixed. So has anyone tried disabling the TCS to see if that will make the problem go away? I will give it a shot this weekend ( my test hill is 1/2 mile from my house), and let you know if it makes any difference!

I feel for you Dom, that really does suck. Hopefully the problems will either stop or you will get the lemon law sorted out. As for buying an Infiniti or whatever, cars with as many problems as yours are just bad eggs and you could have just as easily gotten a bad Audi etc. Best of luck.
