View Full Version : Upgrading sotfware for a -02 navi
05-18-08, 04:53 PM
I'm wondering if I can use the service update CD with GM part. no. 19115256 for my -02 Delphi (Denso) DVD-based stock navigation unit or do I have to use another one?
The reason I ask is that since this car is sold in Europe I have the RPO code
Your domestic ones have the RPO code U3R or U3Q.
Any info would be appreciated since the dealers here in Sweden hasn't got a clue..

why update it?
the software update was only used in the event a power flux or the user accidentally flashed the hard drive...
you gain no new features or options with the update
05-18-08, 05:36 PM
The reason I want to update it is because a service bullletin from Cadillac and Corvette Europe says that vehicles older than -07 must be updated in order to use navigation maps from -07 and newer...

The question I really need an answer to is if it's going to hurt anything if I choose to upgrade the firmware...I was thinking U3S with different options than your domestic ones can go bad if I choose the wrong update CD.
Or is it just one for all three RPO:s..the U3S, U3Q and U3R?

the problem lies in the fact that p/n is discontinued and probably will not be found anywhere
i have a copy of the disc along with the upload instructions and have used it to flash bricked navs but idk about a UK nav if it was Japan id say sure but the euro nav had the different am/fm band tuner frequencies....
your BEST bet is to pull your nav
the instructions i have state the software can ONLY be sure to flash navs with these part numbers
if your navs GM part number matches any of them
05-18-08, 07:57 PM
Ok, I already have a copy of the disc on it's way home :)
But I was hoping not to pull the unit since I don't want to scratch or break anything..
How do I remove the unit? If I can just get the top plastic of in one piece then the rest will hopefully be obvious.

Besides the radio frequencies are there any other risks? In that case I'm willing to give it a try since I don't use the radio that much...
05-18-08, 08:02 PM
whats your email
i can send you full gm esi instructions along with pictures
do not i repeat DO NOT attempt the upgrade on the unit if yours does not match the part numbers provided, or else youll have a nice sized $4000 dollar brick on your hands...

Ouch...that bad ey?
My mail adress is firstname.lastname@example.org
Thanks for great and quick respones!
05-18-08, 08:29 PM
youve got mail!
05-20-08, 05:59 PM
Ok. I pulled the unit and wrote down the part. no.
Gm no. is 25740478
Denso no. is 462200-8032
So it seems that this software update is not suitable for my system..
There must be updates since they are selling maps for my STS..
I checked and according to the TSB i have from Cadillac & Corvette Europe
the same maps are used in STS 02-04. SRX 04-06, XLR 04-07.
But of course they don't know what I'm atalking about..
05-20-08, 06:35 PM
have you tried asking a dealer about what is needed to do the update?
also could try and contact GM Europe for intel
05-20-08, 06:47 PM
Some dealers says that it is not possible to use a map newer than 04, this is because the main parts importer/distributor for GM says it can't be done.
They have interpreted the column in the TSB that says Seville MY02-04
with February 2004 for road map data....I know since I tried to tell them that there are maps for 2007 and 2008 out. They tell me I'm wrong but still I have a 2007 road map disc right here.
Others says that it can be done but they never manage to get info about the updates...
I've tried Cadillac Sweden with no luck and when I tried Cadillac & Corvette Europe they referred me back to a dealer.
I've tried most of the dealer in the souther and middle parts of Sweden...they either don't know or tell me that there are no maps newer than 2004 to my car...funny since I have the part. no right here for a 2008 map to a 2002 STS..
Do you think it's done via a Tech2?
05-20-08, 06:57 PM
def not done via tech II
Denso radios can only be serviced by Denso Japan hence why there are software updates via disc
is you car under warranty still?
05-20-08, 07:05 PM
Hmm, did I say that I've been in contact with gmnavdisc? They told me that Cadillac had the information not them..but when I read TSB:s they all refer back to gmnavdisc.com.. :crybaby:
Should I contact Denso?
05-20-08, 07:44 PM
Denso is of no help trust me on this
if you were under warranty i was gonna say run the disk anyways and if it locks go to the dealer act stupid and get a new nav....
idk what to tell you at this point i mean im very experienced with these systems but i dont wanna tell you something that locks up your navigation system...
05-21-08, 09:24 AM
Hmm, I've heared that the software update supposedly are on the new map DVD:s (from dubious sources I might add).
When I looked at the file structure on my old discs the structure looks like this:
Volume is 464210-6040A
The new disc looks like:
Volume is 464210-6530
I was hoping that the odd files had something to do with the software update...
05-21-08, 05:50 PM
you try putting the new nav disc in?
05-21-08, 06:06 PM
Yes I've tried the new map DVD and everything looks fine except that I can't enter any adress, select POI:s etc. all menus are selectable but they don't do anything.
Just as the disclaimer on the back of the map-DVD says
"For vehicles built prior to 2007, a service CD update may be required to use the DVD map disc.
If the adress destination entry no longer functions with this map disc, please see your dealership for the service update"
The map DVD loads but the player goes on and on just if it was stuck or something. The arrow doesn't move when driving either. When I switch back to the old map DVD everything works just fine..

Is the upgrade disc only updating the navigation unit? Or is it updating anything else? I.e only the navi, not the radio, TV, etc?
05-23-08, 08:52 PM
to be honest
i would guess its a firmware rewrite
it basically come down to what your willing to do
if you want to use the latest disc you have to do the firmware upgrade
if it erases your drive beyond function your looking at 1k for a new uk unit from schram or 4k from the dealer
if you think its worth the risk i say go for it
if it was me, id probably do it
05-23-08, 09:08 PM
My fingers are itching really bad...I guess that is the only way to find out..No risk of frying anything else then?
05-23-08, 09:11 PM
just the nav
it wont brick the nav i dont think as it does have programming on the disc for a us unit
but it may turn it into a us spec unit
05-23-08, 09:27 PM
Since the analogue TV broadcastings are gone anyway and I don't care much about swedish radio that wouldn't be much of a loss.
Hmm 1000$ ..gonna sleep and see what wife says about it
Your efforts are highly appreciated over here
05-23-08, 09:31 PM
not a problem
like i said im pretty experienced with these systems
but id feel bad if you wipe you unit based on me ya know?
05-23-08, 09:37 PM
Anything you say seems logical and after reading about a guy with a 04 or 05 SRX able to read European maps with hs US unit it seems like this might just work, or at least the map will...
If it don't I'm not going to blame you, just the retards at Denso

Good morning guys, in real need of p/n 19115256, to help reset my AVN on a '03 seville would it be possible anyone can send me more info my email is email@example.com
04-15-09, 12:24 AM
Out of the blue my '02 STS NAV stopped working with typical symptoms described in some of the threads "Cannot load system software... " The dealer is playing clueless very convincingly, declaring I need to give them $1000.00 for an "exchange" unit.
If I could buy a copy of the disc (GM # 19115256) from someone along with a copy of the instructions I would be VERY APPRECIATIVE! I tried to send a private message through the forum board but it says I can't due to spam problems (guess they have not figured out what 'captcha' is.) Please reply to my email firstname.lastname@example.org. THANKS!

Just a little info update for you all since our dealership is going through an issue with getting this disc (#19115256) for a customer. Before the days of the GM NavDisc Center (GMNDC) dealers could order any disc part number for their customers. Now that the GMNDC is in the picture there are some restrictions concerning the software update discs. First, only dealers can order the software update discs. Second, each dealer can order one of each software disc (as they need them) for free. Each disc after that initial free disc will cost the dealer some money. The dealer is also supposed to provide the GMNDC with a bulletin that provided the part number for the software update disc when placing the order. In theory, a dealer could order a disc for a customer and sell it to them, but GM doesn't really see a reason for a customer to purchase a disc that they will only use once.
So, to sum up the way I understand this, GM doesn't want customers doing software updates to their Nav systems, but that doesn't mean it can't be done.

I have accidently dumped the software in my 2002 Seville Navigation system. Model number is 25755059. I have been looking to buy or borrow a update disc for it. GMNAV Disc says 19115256 is not available and I should use 15943724. I guess they can only sell that to a dealer. Any information as to where I may find one?
05-21-09, 09:23 AM
I am currently trying to hunt down the software disc myself. If I manage to get a copy I'll let you know. I have located it at a local dealer, but they will only schedule a service visit to do the update and won't sell a copy of the disc.
On the 19115256 disc, all that's there is a single file LOADING.KWI that 7.18 MB in size. Can be burnt onto any blank CD.
05-24-09, 05:19 PM
You have this file, Joe? I sure would love to have a copy of it!
05-25-09, 09:03 PM
I just got my 02 DTS Caddi back from the dealer and they screwed up my radio/navi.
It now says: Caution cannot load system software disk type incorrect please isert correct system disk.
Of what I understand I need the 19115256 disk or similar.
Does anyone have the disk available or have a copy of it I will pay for it if possible and pay for the shipping.
Can you email me and let me know.
If the dealer screwed up your nav, they should fix it at their own expense. What specifically did they do to screw it up?
If you want to buy Sal a nice round of drinks (click on link above) - not just a drink - or become a supporting member of the forum, I can probably help ya out with 19115256.

Anytime the power is removed from my nav unit, the software gets dumped. Maybe yours is the same way. In any case, I'm sure the dealerships parts department has a copy of the disc or can get a free one from GM Nav Disc Center if they haven't gotten one before. All that being said, become a supporting member of the forum and get your very own copy. Like I said, it may loose the software whenever power is lost...dead battery, unhook battery to do some other work...etc.

We have a customer in the same situation. They changed the battery and now the NAV/stereo is disabled. What is required to obtain a copy of the part #19115256 firmware for the system?

Have you tried the nav disc center?
Some firmware discs are only available to dealers tho.
