Hello, I'm a new member from Germany. After several STS, I bought a 2005 XLR and I enjoy it very much. But some months ago the message"service steering lock" appears sometimes and after about 2 months the XLR didn't run anymore and had to be towed to the dealer. After 4 weeks
they got a new steering lock and it runs again. But after 2 weeks the message appeared again several times and I'm waiting that my XLR stopps again. My dealer and GM Germany don't have any idear. Does anybody know how to solve the problem? Thank you very much. Reiner

I don't know for sure but isn't there a steering position sensor that will cause this sort of stuff? I think I had to have something like that replaced on my CTS-V. Hope this helps.

Locate ewill3rd here. He is a sharp technician, and very helpful.

Unfortunately our US market XLRs don't have column locks like your European market one does. Did you happen to get the car scanned by the dealer? It will store a "B" troublecode for the column lock.

It might be a similar system to Corvette, but as Cliff said we don't use that feature in the US market on the XLR.
A few years ago GM deleted them on Automatic transmission cars when we had issues with them on the Corvettes.
Only the manual transmission cars have them now.

We had issues with the BCM and some sticky relays, also the ECL assembly does fail. The micro-switch would not report the correct status to the BCM and it would lock it out.
There should be a code to go by.

Hope the problem has been solved by now, but if it hasn't, check the C5/C6 Corvette forums for 'service column lock.' There should be no shortage of info.

It may be the same system or even column.

Haven't seen the problem on XLR boards, though.
