View Full Version : lightweight wheels T_Dogg8 05-31-04, 11:50 AM how do i find lightweight wheels?? from what everyone has been saying it's definitely an advantage to find lightweight wheels, but when i've been looking, i don't see any mention of weight. so what do i do to make sure i'm not stuck with big heavy wheels??? outofdablue 05-31-04, 01:29 PM The best thing to do is to look for forged wheels. Forge wheels tend to be a lot lighter than regular wheels. But they do cost a lot more . GFG wheel company an affilate of Giovanna wheels makes some nice wheels. T_Dogg8 05-31-04, 01:31 PM what weight would be considered 'light' or a good weight?? 99 SKALAID 05-31-04, 01:34 PM what weight would be considered 'light' or a good weight??My Bazo b4's with tires and in the 23 inch diameter weight about 93 pounds each :bonkers: Sta11ion 05-31-04, 03:23 PM See how much your original wheels weigh, remove one put it on a scale with tire and rim. Try to get one that is close. To Weight just remeber lighter is always better.what weight would be considered 'light' or a good weight?? zx6racer 05-31-04, 09:33 PM Welds Evo rims are the lightest 24's you can get they are 5lbs lighter than stock but its about $6000 for rims TheBehemoth 05-31-04, 11:57 PM With as much as the truck weighs, why go with light weight rims? Its not like its a race car where you have to worry about unsprung weight, i mean an esv is like what,, 6600 lbs? I will take "heavy" rims that can stand some abuse, as opposed to "light weight" rims that i would have to baby.
Remember though this is coming from a guy that wants 22' HRE 648s for his ESV.
hehe
B T_Dogg8 06-01-04, 09:29 AM i don't need 'light' i just don't want to go to heavy. i agree i wouldn't mind a beefy rim that can handle punishment, but i also don't want to have some of the problems people have talked about with having heavy rims. if i could find them around stock weight i'd be happy. T_Dogg8 06-01-04, 09:30 AM does anyone know the weight of stock? i don't know when i'll have a chance to weigh my rims, so if anyone already has their rims and tires of their truck and could weigh them real quick, that'd be great. Your stock wheels and tires weigh between 62-65 lbs. T_Dogg8 06-01-04, 12:07 PM cool.....thanks for the info. skides1 06-01-04, 04:33 PM Hey Tdogg,
As mentioned above, the Weld EVO's are an excellent choice. Forged is the only way to go. My cast MB's are extremely heavy and I would never consider cast rims again, in my opinion form should follow function and most of the ultra pricey are nothing special. I have several friends with Weld EVO's, they are very nice wheels. T_Dogg8 06-02-04, 08:22 AM where can i look to buy those wheels?? and does a lighter wheel provide any more risk of bending?? where can i look to buy those wheels?? and does a lighter wheel provide any more risk of bending??
A lot of the forged wheels even though they are lighter they are much stronger than cast wheels weighing much more. Tire Rack sells some of the Weld EVO line. http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/evo/evo.jsp T_Dogg8 06-02-04, 09:19 AM cool, thanks......now that i found wheels i like, i just have to find the money to pay for them :) donations accepted :) :) Which wheels are you looking at? T_Dogg8 06-02-04, 11:36 AM the EVO Slingblade 6. I like those and the Velociti 6 :) T_Dogg8 06-02-04, 01:06 PM yeah.....those are cool too.
i'm looking at a set on gmpartsdirect.com that are pretty cool. and much further in my price range. clickart 06-02-04, 11:21 PM If you have money, than go for the OZ Commanche rims. They are forged lightweight rims but they do cost a lot more than EVO. I think OZ rims look a lot better than EVO rims. I have a set of Giovanna Cassino 22" and on the UPS shipping bill it showed 65 lbs per rims. I don't know why my 22" Cassino is lightweight because it's not a forged rims. The UPS shipping bill might be wrong but I hope not :) They could weigh 65 lbs, stock tires weigh 41 lbs, that would put you around 100lbs give or take depending on what tires you have, compared to less than 65 lbs for stock wheels and tires. clickart 06-03-04, 12:22 AM The wheels were shipped with tires and rims mounted...lol. It came with Pirelli 305/40/22 tires. T_Dogg8 06-03-04, 08:45 AM If you have money,
that's the problem, i don't have the money :) Machine 06-03-04, 12:23 PM Centerline makes some strong forged chrome wheels. I run the Centerline Edge wheels and have experienced the strength firsthand when i was forced to run over a curb doing 10mph. :suspense: No damage at all. |
