: Anyone have second battery??

I am upgrading the sound system in my truck.. probably going to be running 1500watts rms/ 3000 max on my 2 12inch Solo Barics. I guess the first thing I should ask is if anyone knows if this will put enough drain on the vehicle where i should go with another battery... i remember when i had my system a while back and was only running like 800-1200 watts and my interior lights dimmed like crazy when the bass hit... i was thinking that maybe a second battery might help.. i know there is alot of room up in the rear left corner of the engine bay.. not sure if a battery could be mounted in there or not.. anyway... just wanted to see if anyone has done it.. maybe have some pics and prices on what it cost to have it installed and if there is anything else that has to be done when adding a second battery... thanks for any insight..

My Suburban's did, and my 07's have dual batteries in them, never added it to my 03' Escalade because I only towed with it twice when I had it.

Just get a capacitor. I believe that will help with the dimming.

I run a second battery and get no dimming. I'd say run the battery, I am also gonna add a cap

Hi, can you forward images and part numbers of how to put a second battery on a >2006 truck.

Many Thanks

Dont bother with a cap. they will do nothing at that type of rms. Those Kickers are kind of hungry. What kind of amp are you running? at what Ohm? Either way, your better off running a second batt but keep in mind there is a good chance you might outdo your 130amp factory alt. you might want to invest in another alt to not have to worry.

Out of interest, where was the second battery located?

Well it depends on how big of a battery you will need. most people can fit a smaller audio battery up near the passenger side. Il be running 5000w (2500rms) and my 70lb Kinetik HC2400 will no way fit anywhere in the engine bay. But I found this pic of a HC2400 shoved up in a newer model Silverado so anything is possible.

That's funny... That's my pic... it even has my name under it...

That was in my 2001 tahoe. I did have a bigger alternator and everything ran fine, no dimming...

What alternator did you have, the 2003 ESV i am going to look at has a 145 amp (from factory). I plan to put a second battery in the same location, i assume its live to live then second battery ground to chassis, where is the best location to ground it?

It was an aftermarket alt... I don't remember (it was about 5 yrs ago)

Second battery was ground to chasis, but instead of live to live, there was a 200amp relay that's turned on when the truck is running. That way, one battery can't drain the other, and my 2nd battery was for stereo only.

You can see in that picture on the left of the battery, a black 4 guage wire going to the fender bolt.

I’ve just been browsing through the EPC online and stumbled on ESV 2003 (Battery tray LEFT and battery tray RIGHT) then for power cables it listed a live and neutral for battery and "Auxiliary battery" so GM does make a second battery for the >2006 trucks....

Will check to see if I can get part numbers.

Many Thanks
