So there is no battery currently in the car, the cables are the same color, and I'm very new and inexperienced when it comes to any work. The old cables are frayed so I would like to replace them, but without a battery currently attached I'm not sure which goes where. It appears as though one connects to the starter and one is grounded to the frame, but again I know nothing about this, so any help as to where the positive and negative connect is greatly appreciated. Thanks

The one to the starter is the positive. Buy high quality replacements when you install the new battery.

Thanks for the help Don. Will local auto parts stores have high quality cables? Like Auto Zone or Napa? Or will I end up with generic ones if I go there? Thanks in advance...
