Hey guys,
I'm a fairly new user to this site and have done some searching but I can't find anything on checking my auto trans fluid for my 2000 north *. I've read the owners manual and it says you have to take the air box cover off to check it because of the location of the dipstick but when I do this the engine dies. Am I suppose to check this with the engine not running ? Anyone with some advice on this would be appreciated.

The transmission dipstick is under the intake hose. The reason the engine dies is because the MAF needs to be plugged in and in line with no vacuum leaks. If your car has a kidney-shaped resonator on top of the air intake tube, pull it off and stick a spray can top in the hole. The transmission dipstick should have NO OIL on it, engine off, and be in the hashmark area, engine running warm. It's a dry sump transmission........

Click on the pic and scroll in. The 2 1/2" rubber pipe cap ($1.59, Home depot, with clamp) makes a nice engine room cleanup mod. Use a proper thread screw to retain the top of the filter case. (The clamp in the pic is hjolding the case while I drill 2 more retainer screw holes in the flange after some internal work.........
