Hello,

I'm having troubles locating the cause of a ticking sound after rebuilding my Cadillac 472 engine. When the engine idles I hear a ticking sound like a metal to metal sound, but when I loosen the rocker arm assembley less then the torque specs. the sound disapeers!?
After I replaced the head gaskets it all( ticking sound) began. I took it all off again and replaced the valve lifters. That didn't help the ticking continues.Than I thought maybe the piston rings have got stuck because the rebuild took quiet some time ,and the cilinder heads were of at that time.So I also replaced the piston rings with the correct overbore size. After rebuilding again the tick continues to stay.I don't know what to do anymore, don't wan't to keep on replacing parts without a solution!
Who can help me ?
Thanks,

"but when I loosen the rocker arm assembley less then the torque specs. the sound disapeers!? "......is makes me think you have too much preload on the lifters... not good .. this will distroy the cam and lifters... measure with a adjustable pushrod for correct length... there is a chance chevy lifters could work, they are .050 shorter...
